Buddhist Society Tanjong Malim, formerly known as the Tanjong Malim Buddhist Society was initiated in 1965, when the late Ven. Chuk Mor decided to propagate Dharma to the lay people in the Tanjong Malim area. It started with the creation of F**k Pau Lin Vihara(佛宝林). Its objective was to attract lay people of the area to learn Buddhism. The Buddhist Society was formally established in 1982 under the leadership of Ven. Dai Ji Sheng became the Chairman of the Buddhist Society, and people from all strata of society came together to learn Buddhism. In 1992, the Buddhist Society was officially registered with the government and it was renamed as Buddhist Society Tanjong Malim. Siow Jin Jing was elected as the first President and he was replaced by Bro. Siew Sin Yoon in 1995 as the second President. In 1998, F**k Pau Lin Vihara was reconstructed, and many young people have gone to work in the big cities. The Buddhist Society has thus experienced a slow-down for few years. However, its shine never disappeared. It was rejuvenated when a few undergraduates from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) decided to reactivate this cohesive force and bring back the youths. At the end of 2004, they gathered few seniors, together with new teachers, convened a meeting to discuss the revival of Dharma classes. Finally, in 2005, the Dharma classes were successfully re-established and named as Metta Dharma class. The number of students were around 100 people. The main purpose of establishing the Buddhist Society was to propagate Dharma, by encouraging the public from all levels to learn the Dharma in order to improve their behavior and morality. In the 1980s, the Buddhist Society cooperated with F**k Pau Lin Vihara, and started to organise Wesak Day Procession for few years, under the leadership of Ven. Ji He. This event has become the mainstay of every Wesak Day for the locals. In 2012, the Buddhist Society was still renting space from F**k Pau Lin Vihara after its establishment 21 years ago. The committees realised that they needed a permanent place to attract more people and to continuously develop the association and its activities. Consequently, a fund raising dinner was held for the first time, and it successfully achieved the record of having thousand people feast in Tanjong Malim for the first time ever. After few years of effort, the committee met with Ven. Wei Wu, the founder of the International Buddhist College at the end of 2015. Coincidentally, Ven. Wei Wu knew that Buddhist Society was looking for an office space. Ven. Wei Wu was very kind hearted and promised to let a double storey house to the Society. Henceforth, the Buddhist Society has a temporary base and officially operative by year end 2016. The good deeds continue until today, the Buddhist Society has regained its vitality through reviving the Dharma class and started training the adolescent. The new generation of youths was Dharma ignorant. The teachers took this opportunity to encourage the students to take part in the Wesak Day Procession which serves as a training platform for the young people. Few years later, a group of students who were interested in Dharma started to organise camps to attract more students. Later, a Buddhist children life camp was held. The two camps have attracted much good affinity and ties between the association and the local residents. The focus on education for children and youths is now finally on track. The development of the Buddhist Society started to focus on the community. With acquisition of new building, more activities and programmes could be carried out to benefit the public.
