The founder of the temple was Madam Teoh Kim Eng. As the years passed by, with the kind service rendered by Madam Teoh and the Spiritual power of the Deity, Sun Chai Yah, more and more people staying around Batu Kurau and many residents from Taiping started to worship the Deity. The numbers of worshippers and followers increased from day to day. As the temple was situated in the village of Batu Ku
rau, the worshippers and devotees found it difficult to travel along the narrow and winding roads to reach the temple. Eventually, Madam Teoh shifted the temple to a building at Kota Road, Taiping in the year 1929 to ease the burden of the worshippers and devotees. Again, the building at that new address was not really suitable as a temple, because it was too small and congested for the increasing numbers of worshippers and devotees. Moreover, the building was situated at a strategic locality right at the centre of the Commercial Area of Taiping. In 1932, the temple was once again shifted to the present address at 197, Jalan Chung Thye Phin, Taiping. The temple was then managed by Madam Teoh until 1967, when she passed away. On her demise, the management of the temple was succeeded by Mr. The temple was under the care of Mr Chua Keat Seang for 12 years until the year 1979. In that same year, Mr Chuah Lai Huat succeeded his father in managing the temple until 2002. The temple was then registered under the Registrar Of Society in 1988. For the past many years, our Deity, Sun Chai Yah, has been residing in a rented premise by paying a monthly rental to the Landlord. In 1995, with the kind gesture of the Landlord, the Committee managed to purchase the premise with their contributions and generous donations from the committee and devotees. . A total sum of RM One Hundred and Fifty Eight Thousand (RM 158,000.00) was collected for the purchase of the premise. As the temple was an old wooden building and was in poor condition, lacking facilities and requiring high maintenance and repairs, our committee has decided to demolish it and build a new premise in 2002 so as to provide a more comfortable and spacious place for our Deity, Sun Chai Yah.. Once again, the Central Working Committee of Sun Chai Yah Temple, organized a building fund and appeal to the devotees to donate generously towards that Building Fund, as an estimated sum of RM One Hundred Thousand (RM 100,000.00) was required. The building has now been completed and on behalf of the Central Working Committee of Sun Chai Yah Temple, I wish to convey our gratitude and thanks to all who have donated generously towards our Building Fund.
