Youth Dhamma Camp Sampajañña Sutta Study: RADAR
The Buddha encourages the fulfilment of sati (mindfulness) and sampajañña — clear knowing, clear comprehension, contextual situational awareness, full alertness — for the growth of the spiritual life, towards the fullness of the knowledge and vision of freedom (vimuttiñāṇadassana).
“Satisampajaññe, bhikkhave, sati satisampajaññasampannassa upanisasampannaṁ hoti hirottappaṁ.”
“When there is sati and sampajañña, bhikkhave, one who has fulfilled sati and sampajañña has fulfilled a vital condition for honourable conscience and prudent compunction.”
—Satisampajañña Sutta, Aṅguttara Nikāya 8:81
“Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno viditā vedanā uppajjanti, viditā upaṭṭhahanti, viditā abbhatthaṁ gacchanti. Viditā vitakkā uppajjanti, viditā upaṭṭhahanti, viditā abbhatthaṁ gacchanti. Viditā saññā uppajjanti, viditā upaṭṭhahanti, viditā abbhatthaṁ gacchanti. Evaṁ kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhu sampajāno hoti.”
“Here, bhikkhave, for a bhikkhu, feelings are known as they arise, known as they remain, known as they go away. Thoughts are known as they arise, known as they remain, known as they go away. Perceptions are known as they arise, known as they remain, known as they go away. In this way, bhikkhave, a bhikkhu clearly knows.”
—Sati Sutta, Saṁyutta Nikāya 47:35
In this Sampajañña Sutta Study, we explore the applications and dimensions of sampajañña, within the framework of RADAR, as experienced through the Subang Jaya Buddhist Association Youth Dhamma Camp (SJBA YDC) in March 2026, with the Centre for Research and Dhamma Leadership Enhancement (d’CRADLE) as programme partner.
