Perjalanan Salib – Week 3:
Society
9 August 2026

As our parish continues its month-long Perjalanan Salib 2026, we entered our third weekly theme: Society. This week invited us to reflect on how our faith calls us to live responsibly, compassionately, and wisely in the wider community.

To bring this theme to life, our parish youth organised a Village Game for our CCD students. Through a series of games and challenges, the children were given an opportunity to experience, in a fun and meaningful way, some of the realities of life in society.

Along the way, they learned about the value of work and wages, the hardships and responsibilities that come with working life, and the importance of teamwork and helping one another. They were also challenged to recognise the importance of charity and generosity towards those in need, while learning how temptation can influence our choices and how wisdom and discernment can protect us from being deceived or scammed.

More than simply a game, the activity encouraged our children to look beyond themselves and understand the world around them. It reminded them that as Christians, we are called not only to receive from society, but also to contribute to it — through honesty, compassion, responsibility, wisdom, and care for others.

As we continue our Perjalanan Salib, may this Salib remind us that following Christ means bringing His love into the society in which we live. May we grow into a community that looks out for one another, stands with those who struggle, resists temptation, and chooses what is good, just, and true.

Perjalanan Salib – Week 2: Church

As our parish continues its journey of the Perjalanan Salib 2026, we entered the second weekly theme: Church. This week's celebration invited us to reflect that the Church is more than a building. It is the People of God, united in faith, worship, and service, journeying together as the Body of Christ.
To mark this special occasion, parishioners were encouraged to wear their respective parish ministry and church movement T-shirts as a visible sign of unity and belonging. It was a joyful reminder that while we serve in different ministries, we are one Church with one mission - to proclaim Christ through our lives.
Following the Sunday Eucharistic Celebration, parishioners took turns venerating the Salib, offering moments of personal prayer and reflection. As we honoured the Cross of Christ, we were reminded that every member of the Church is called to take up the Cross with faith, hope, and love, walking together in communion with one another.
Our CCD children celebrated this week's theme through a special talk on vocation and serving the Church before the start of their classes. They were encouraged to recognise that every vocation is a gift from God, and that each person, regardless of age, has a unique role to play in building up the Church through love, service, and faithful discipleship.
As we continue this month-long Perjalanan Salib, may the Salib remind us that the Church is not merely a building, but the People of God united in Christ. Strengthened by His love and guided by His Cross, may we continue to journey together in faith, serve one another with joy, and build a welcoming, compassionate, and missionary Church wherever we are called to be.

Perjalanan Salib Day 2: Official Launching of the Perjalanan Salib

With hearts filled with gratitude and hope, the parish community of St. Mary's of the Divine Mercy officially launched the Perjalanan Salib 2026 during the Sunday Eucharistic Celebration, marking the beginning of a month-long spiritual journey of prayer, reflection, and communion.
The celebration began with a meaningful procession to welcome the Salib into the church to officially launch the Perjalanan Salib. The procession was carefully prepared to reflect the spirit of synodality where the Church journeys together as one People of God. Every group represented a different vocation and stage of life, reminding us that each person has a unique place and mission in the life of the Church.
Leading the procession were our elders, reminding us that the Church walks with every generation, never leaving anyone behind. In a world that is constantly moving faster, today we chose to walk at the pace of our elders, honouring their wisdom, faith, and lifelong witness.
Our children and youth followed, representing the hope of today and the promise of tomorrow. As they grow together in faith and love, they remind us that the future of the Church is nurtured in the hearts of the young.
Working adults, uniformed personnel, and homemakers represented all who labour faithfully in workplaces, homes, and in service to society. Their presence reminds us that every honest vocation is a calling to serve God and our neighbour with love and integrity.
Our migrant brothers and sisters walked as a visible reminder that the Church knows no strangers. Though we come from different nations, languages, and cultures, we are one family united in Christ.
Our Religious Sisters bore witness to lives wholly dedicated to God through prayer, service, and charity. Their vocation continues to inspire the faithful to seek holiness and joyful discipleship.
The Chairmen of our Parish Pastoral Councils represented servant leadership within the Church. Walking in humility, they signify the responsibility of guiding God's people with faith, wisdom, and compassion.
Finally, our Church Wardens were entrusted in carrying the Salib into the church. As custodians of the Salib during this procession, they remind us that true leadership begins with service, and that every disciple is called to take up the Cross and follow Christ. As the Salib entered the church, it marked the official commencement of the Perjalanan Salib in our parish.
The Eucharistic celebration was further enriched by the beautiful ministry of our Youth and CCD Choir, whose voices led the congregation in joyful worship.
This Sunday also coincided with the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. In thanksgiving for their enduring faith, wisdom, and loving witness, our children presented a special song dedicated to all grandparents and senior members of our parish. It was a touching reminder that our elders are precious gifts to the Church and families, as they continue to pass down faith, values, and love through their lives and examples.
Inspired by this celebration, the first weekly theme of the Perjalanan Salib was chosen as Family. The family is the first place where faith is nurtured, where love is learned, and where generations journey together towards Christ. Our grandparents and elders remind us that every family carries a story of faith, built through years of prayer and worship, sacrifice, and unconditional love.
Following the Mass, parishioners gathered at the SK St. Mary School Hall for a joyful Family Day celebration. Children and youth animated the Praise and Worship session with action songs, bringing joy and enthusiasm to the gathering. Families then participated in meaningful activities such as creating family cards for their loved ones and writing personal prayers focused on family to be placed in the petition box. Through these simple acts of love, families were encouraged to express gratitude, strengthen their bonds, and place Christ at the centre of their homes.
The celebration concluded with the veneration of the Salib, allowing CCD students, youth and parishioners to encounter Christ's love and entrust their families to God through the Salib.
The launch of the Perjalanan Salib also introduced the four weekly themes that will accompany our parish throughout this month of pilgrimage:
Week 1 – Family
Week 2 – Church
Week 3 – Society
Week 4 – Ecology
As we begin this month-long pilgrimage, may the Perjalanan Salib continue to unite our parish in faith, hope, and love. May we truly become a synodal Church — a Church that listens, welcomes, serves, and walks together with Christ at the centre of our journey.
