A morning of misty rain gave way to a spiritually radiant atmosphere on Sunday, March 15, as many gathered at Pusat Buddhis Dhammaduta Malaysia, Putrajaya, for the BMSM Founder’s Day Maha Sanghikadana.
✨ A Morning of Devotion
The day began with a serene Pindapata, where the cool post-drizzle air made it ideal for the offering of cooked rice and other items to 75 Bhikkhus and Bhikkhunis from the Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana traditions. It was a beautiful sight to behold.
🙏 Honoring Two Great Teachers
This year’s event held double significance:
• The Legacy of our Founder: We honoured the late Ven. K. Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Maha Thera (our beloved "Chief Reverend"), whose 54 years of service paved the way for Buddhism to flourish in Malaysia.
• A Golden Jubilee: We celebrated the 50th Ordination Anniversary of our Spiritual and General Advisor, Bhante Mahinda. Having been ordained on March 7, 1976, Bhante continues to walk the path of Dhammaduta service lit by his teacher.
📜 A Journey Down Memory Lane
Our esteemed Advisor, Uncle Vijaya Samarawickrama, moved the hearts of many as he shared stories of the Chief Reverend’s journey. From his arrival in Malaya in 1952 to the humble beginnings of the Buddhist Missionary Society in 1962 with just 27 members, we were reminded of the vision and grit that built the foundation we stand on today.
🍲 Boundless Merits
Led by Ven. Datuk K. Sri Dhammaratana Nayaka Maha Thera, hundreds of devotees participated in the Maha Sanghikadana with joyful spirits. We collectively dedicated these merits to the health and longevity of our teachers and the continued flourishing of the Dhamma.
We express our deepest gratitude to the Maha Sangha, our volunteers, and every devotee who made this day a cornerstone of the BMSM calendar.
May the light of the Dhamma continue to shine! ☸️
