The Merdeka Blessings MahฤSaแน…ghikadฤna 2026 took place on Sunday, 30 August 2026, at SJK (C) Tsun Jin in Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur to celebrate Malaysia's 69 independent years.

The event was organized by the United Buddhist Order of Malaysia (UBOM) alongside a coalition of 14 local Buddhist organizations. Local and oversea bhikkhus and bhikkhunis and laity participated in this meritorious event which centered around the theme โ€œUnderstanding Unites, Kindness Blessesโ€. The gathering featured alms rounds (piแน‡แธapฤta), prayer blessings, Merdeka Dhamma Message & Dhamma talk and robe offerings to support the monastic community and provide opportunity for all to make more merits - to practice generosity, morality and mental cultivation to develop harmonious and progressive people and nation.

The presence of His Holiness Somdet Phra Mahฤvajiramunivong (Puรฑรฑajoto), LuangPhor Ganhฤ Sukhakฤmo, Most Venerable Dr. Kirinde Dhammaratana Nฤyaka Thero, the Chief Saแน…gha Nฤyaka of Malaysia and Venerable Chao Khun Kheng (Khemako) gave further affirmation to "We practice good not for good image but for goodness as it brings wellbeing to oneself and others, harmony and progress".

The Transport Minister, YB Anthony Loke emphasised that Malaysia's diversity of ethnicities, religions, cultures and languages forms the foundation of the nation's strength, underpinned by mutual respect and care. Thus, understanding unites, kindness blesses. In this event, beside the bhikkhus, the bhikkhunis were also invited to receive the robes on behalf of the MahaSangha for the wellbeing, happiness and benefit of the many. Anumodana. Sadhu. Sadhu. Sadhu.

After the Merdeka Blessings, Ariya Vihara received a visit from Buddhist devotees from Teluk Intan and Sitiawan. Ven. Sumaแน…galฤ shared with them the building of Ariya Vihara and the inspiring pioneer bhikkhuni legacy of Mahapajapatฤซ Gotamฤซ Theri for women and liberation. Happy Merdeka Day.

Our speaker, Low Mi Yen, is a Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years of experience in clinical assessment and intervention, corporate and community training, and mindfulness and compassion-based interventions. She is also a trained Teacher of Mindful Self-Compassion and has been deeply involved in Buddhist organisations, practising Dhamma and meditation for over 35 years.
