Here’s the English translation of the sermon:
Date: 31 May 2026
Preacher: Rev. Isaiah Chow
Sermon Title: The Power to Heal Soul and Body
Scripture: Mark 2:1–12
In today’s message, Rev. Isaiah led the congregation through Mark 2:1–12, reflecting on the story of Jesus healing the paralytic. When the paralytic was brought before Jesus by his friends, the crowd’s main concern was whether his body could be healed. Yet Jesus first focused on his soul.
Rev. Isaiah reminded us that Jesus’ first words to the paralytic were: “Child, your sins are forgiven.” The Lord did not immediately heal his legs but forgave his sins, because He knew that the deepest problem in human life is not sickness but sin. Disease affects this present life, but sin concerns eternity. Therefore, healing of the soul and restoration of relationship with God is more important than physical healing.
He then shared that Jesus has the authority to forgive sins. The scribes questioned this, believing only God could forgive. But Jesus’ declaration of forgiveness revealed that He was not merely a teacher or prophet, but the Son of God. He possesses the authority to forgive sins and the power to save.
To demonstrate this authority, Jesus said to the paralytic: “Rise, take up your mat, and go home.” Immediately the man stood, picked up his mat, and walked out. This miracle showed that Jesus not only forgives sins but also has the power to heal the body.
Rev. Isaiah also shared his own experiences visiting hospitals. He witnessed many situations that seemed hopeless, yet when families brought patients before the Lord in prayer, God still worked in grace. Though God’s ways may not always match human expectations, He remains sovereign and attentive to people’s needs.
Through this passage, we see again that Jesus cares not only for the body but also for the soul. He desires to forgive sins, renew lives, and grant healing and grace according to His will.
May we, when coming before the Lord, not only ask for health and peace but also seek healing for our souls, so that we may be rightly related to God. For physical healing is temporary, but soul healing is eternal—and Jesus is the One who has the power to heal both soul and body!
