Here’s the English translation of the sermon:

Date: 31 May 2026
Preacher: Rev. Isaiah Chow
Sermon Title: The Power to Heal Soul and Body
Scripture: Mark 2:1–12

In today’s message, Rev. Isaiah led the congregation through Mark 2:1–12, reflecting on the story of Jesus healing the paralytic. When the paralytic was brought before Jesus by his friends, the crowd’s main concern was whether his body could be healed. Yet Jesus first focused on his soul.

Rev. Isaiah reminded us that Jesus’ first words to the paralytic were: “Child, your sins are forgiven.” The Lord did not immediately heal his legs but forgave his sins, because He knew that the deepest problem in human life is not sickness but sin. Disease affects this present life, but sin concerns eternity. Therefore, healing of the soul and restoration of relationship with God is more important than physical healing.

He then shared that Jesus has the authority to forgive sins. The scribes questioned this, believing only God could forgive. But Jesus’ declaration of forgiveness revealed that He was not merely a teacher or prophet, but the Son of God. He possesses the authority to forgive sins and the power to save.

To demonstrate this authority, Jesus said to the paralytic: “Rise, take up your mat, and go home.” Immediately the man stood, picked up his mat, and walked out. This miracle showed that Jesus not only forgives sins but also has the power to heal the body.

Rev. Isaiah also shared his own experiences visiting hospitals. He witnessed many situations that seemed hopeless, yet when families brought patients before the Lord in prayer, God still worked in grace. Though God’s ways may not always match human expectations, He remains sovereign and attentive to people’s needs.

Through this passage, we see again that Jesus cares not only for the body but also for the soul. He desires to forgive sins, renew lives, and grant healing and grace according to His will.

May we, when coming before the Lord, not only ask for health and peace but also seek healing for our souls, so that we may be rightly related to God. For physical healing is temporary, but soul healing is eternal—and Jesus is the One who has the power to heal both soul and body!

🕊️ Youth Fellowship|If Jesus entered your heart, what would He drive out?

Praise the Lord! Our Youth Fellowship successfully held its 3rd gathering! ✨

This time, we gathered at Bro Kenneth Ham Zhi Hao's cozy home in Sungai Buloh.

A total of 10 brothers and sisters came together to count our blessings and share a wonderful time.

🍱 A Warm and Hearty Potluck Party

We went with a potluck style for this gathering! Everyone brought a dish to share—fried noodles, bread, an exquisite fruit platters, cakes, and rich soup... you name it, we had it!

Sharing all this food allowed us to taste a variety of delicious treats and brought us closer together through casual, warm conversations.

🎈 Praise, Games, and Fellowship

After filling our stomachs, we worshipped and praised our God together through hymns.

This was followed by a fun icebreaker drawing game that kept everyone laughing (just look at those spiritually creative sketches, the competitive spirit was definitely real, haha!).

To wrap things up, we headed down to the beautiful poolside at night to stroll, chat, and snap some group photos—the vibes were absolutely perfect.

📖 A Deep Reflection on the Word

Lastly, Rev Liza brought us a profound message based on the scripture where 'Jesus enters the temple and drives out the money changers'.

Rev Liza left us with a soul-searching question to reflect on:

"If Jesus were to enter our hearts right at this moment, what would He need to drive out?

Would it be pride, anxiety, worldly temptations, or the hidden clutter that has quietly taken God's place?"

This message prompted each of us to look deep within ourselves and examine whether our hearts remain a clean temple dedicated solely to worshipping God.

Rev Liza also encouraged everyone to keep up the passion and actively attend future gatherings. Let us work hand in hand to help this love-filled youth fellowship grow stronger and bring more lost sheep back to God's house!

"Let us seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; regardless of our differences, let us walk together with one heart." ❤️

Rev Dr Ezra Kok

首先,要“先看大图像,再看小细节”,从整体背景与主题出发,才能更准确理解经文内容;

其次,要认识圣经不同的基本体裁,因为不同体裁有不同的阅读方式;

郭汉成牧师透过《腓立比书》的两个主要特色,提醒信徒要学习以“基督为中心”—— 学习基督的谦卑与顺服;

Rawang Country Homes Chinese Methodist Church
2026 Nationwide Bible Study Seminar (II) – Special Report

Theme: How to Read New Testament Letters – Using Philippians as a Sample

To help brothers and sisters gain a deeper understanding of the Bible and be rooted in the truth, our church held the “Nationwide Bible Study” seminar on May 17, with the theme “How to Read New Testament Letters: Using Philippians as a Sample.”

The speaker was Rev. Dr. Ezra Kok.

A total of 51 people attended. Thankfully, almost all who joined the worship service stayed for the seminar—reaching nearly 100% participation! Truly, this was God’s grace and encouragement.

From Overview to Deeper Understanding of Scripture

In the first part of the seminar, Rev. Ezra Kok explained three basic approaches to reading the Bible.

First, “look at the big picture before the details”—starting from the overall background and themes to better grasp the meaning of the text.

Second, recognize the different literary genres in Scripture, since each requires a distinct reading method.

Third, consider the “three worlds” of the text: the world behind (historical context), within (the text itself), and in front (today’s context), to understand God’s Word more fully.

Learning How to Read Paul’s Letters

In the second part, Rev. Ezra Kok focused on the New Testament letter of Philippians—Paul’s “letter of friendship.”

He explained its framework, format, and structure, moving from the flow of thought to sentence analysis, helping the congregation grasp the text more clearly.

He also taught methods for reading Paul’s letters: first, understand the author (Paul), along with the social, cultural, and church background of the time; then learn about the origins of the Philippian church and Paul’s purpose in writing.

Through step‑by‑step analysis, participants gained a clearer and more concrete understanding of how to read and interpret New Testament letters.

Core Themes of Philippians

- Christ‑centered life: “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” (Phil. 1:21)
- Joy in the Lord: “Do not be anxious about anything…” (Phil. 4:6)

Rev. Ezra Kok highlighted these two features of Philippians, reminding believers to live with Christ at the center—learning His humility and obedience—and to rejoice in the Lord in all circumstances.

True joy does not come from the environment but from Christ. Whether in suffering, service, trust, or generosity, Christians are called to live a joyful life in Christ.

Spiritual Growth Lessons from Philippians

Through systematic teaching, Rev. Ezra Kok further explored Philippians—a letter full of encouragement and friendship.

From the opening greeting to the closing blessing, he analyzed each section.

He emphasized Paul’s thanksgiving and prayer for the Philippian church, reminding believers to let love abound, to stand firm in faith, and to learn humility and unity in Christ.

Finally, he encouraged the congregation to be of one mind in the Lord, to inspire one another with good spiritual examples, and to make Christ the goal of life—living out values that glorify God and bless others.

Rev Dr Ezra Kok

Here’s the English translation of the sermon summary:

Date: 17 May 2026
Preacher: Rev Dr Ezra Kok
Sermon Title: A Positive and Simple Talk on Life and Death
Scripture: Psalm 90:10–12; Ecclesiastes 12:1

The core of this sermon was to guide Christians to face aging and death with spiritual wisdom and a positive outlook.

In an aging society, longevity should not be seen as a burden.

End‑of‑life care is not only a medical issue but also an important aspect of pastoral ministry, requiring holistic attention to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of both the dying and their caregivers.

Through Ecclesiastes, Rev Ezra Kok taught about the biblical view of aging.

The vivid metaphors describing the decline of vision, teeth, and strength remind us that life will eventually return to dust.

Therefore, people should remember and worship their Creator while they are young, before the days of aging arrive.

He also drew from Psalm 90, which emphasizes the brevity of life.

Christians should ask God to teach them to number their days, recognizing life’s shortness and limitations, so that they may use their time wisely, live according to God’s will, and dedicate their lives to Him.

Rev Ezra Kok outlined five practical preparations for a good end:

1. Assurance of salvation—to face the Lord with peace.
2. Relational reconciliation—expressing thanks, apologies, forgiveness, love, and farewells.
3. Faith legacy—following Paul’s example in passing on the faith.
4. Financial order—arranging property and making a will.
5. Advance planning—preparing medical directives and funeral arrangements.

In closing, Rev Ezra Kok encouraged the congregation to live wisely.

Growing old does not mean spiritual decline.

We should continue in worship, service, fellowship, mission, and growth, responding actively to God every day.

In this way, we live a rich life filled with wisdom and accompanied by the love of the Lord.
