During MCO, stress levels tends to go up with fears of COVID19. Going forward with the gradual starting up of the economic engines, fears of being infected have become very real. Are there ways in which we can reduce our stress and help with mental healing? BGF brings you a very well-known psychiatrist and the President of the Kuala Lumpur Buddhist Mental Health Association, Dr Phang Cheng Kar. Bro. Datuk Seri Dr Victor Wee is the President and a
Founding Member of Buddhist Gem Fellowship, Malaysia. He taught Dhamma in Malaysia and Singapore and spoke at Buddhist conferences.
He has led Metta meditation at BGF for the last 20 years. As an accomplished Buddhist musician, he had composed many Dhamma songs in English and recorded five albums with the Wayfarers, which he leads.

Speaker Profile

Ven. Dr. Karma Tashi Choedron is a śrāmaṇerikā (Tibet: getsulma), ordained by Venerable Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche in 2009. Ven. Dr. Karma is a meditation teacher, focusing on mind training, calm-abiding and insight meditation. Trained as a civil engineer, she also holds a Ph.D. in Environment and Resource Studies from Mahidol University, Thailand and an M.A. in Buddhist Studies from the International Buddhist College (IBC).

Ven. Dr. Karma, an environmental sociologist, is currently an Assistant Professor in Development Studies at the University of Nottingham, Kuala Lumpur, and the Deputy Director of Education at the Vajrayāna Buddhist Council of Malaysia (VBCM) and Religious Advisor to the Malaysian Buddhist Consultative Council (MBCC). She is also concurrently pursuing a systematic Buddhist philosophy course in the Nalanda tradition under the auspices of Tibet House, Delhi, on a part-time basis.

Ven. Dr. Karma received the Outstanding Woman in Buddhism Award in 2010 in recognition of her contributions to Buddhism and the environment by the Association for the Promotion of Status of Women in Thailand. Ven. Dr. Karma Tashi Choedron has authored two books on conservation and co-authored a comparative study between Sikhism and Buddhism, titled, Two Gurus One Message which is pending publication in the near future.

Title : Chinese Funeral Rites in Malaysia.
Speaker : Ven Sing Kan
Speaker Profile:
Ven Sing Kan was ordained at age 25 and had her higher ordination in 1987 under Master Tai Sheng from Taiwan. Her early teachers included the Late Chief Ven Dr K. Sri Dhammananda and Uncle Fam. A keen academic, she holds a Diploma in Buddhism from Kelaniya University in Sri Lanka and a Degree in Buddhism from International Buddhist College.
Her passion is in educating the young. She was the Vice Principal and teacher of Siang Lin Chiao Yen kindergarten in Malacca before becoming the Abbess of Sam Poh Thong temple in Ampang. There, she started the ‘Smart Readership Programme’ to improve the standard of English of the under-privileged children in the neighbourhood. Starting with 20 students, the number has grown to over a hundred. To accommodate the increasing number of students and devotees, she is expanding the temple.
Ven is also actively involved in interfaith dialogue and is one of the Vice-Presidents of the Malaysian Consultative Committee of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism.

Speaker Profile:
Prof Dr Bhante Seevali is a Canadian of Sri Lanka origin. He holds an M.A.,D.E.A and a Ph.D from the University of Paris,France. He is an author and a lecturer. Currently, he is the Professor of Classical Languages and Theravada Buddhism at the Central University of Tibetan Studies at Varanasi,India.
He travels regularly to many different countries to spread the sublime message of the Buddha. Prof Seevali can be reached at the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Bro Dr Bugs Tan is a prominent inventor with 16 national awards. In 2007 he received the National Innovation Award from the Prime Minister of Malaysia. In 2009, he received the International Award for Excellence in Innovation in India. In 2010 he received the Order of Merit for Innovation in Korea. In 2012 he was inducted as a FELLOW at the University Technology Malaysia. In 2018 he was named an Un-Sung Hero by Maybank. He is currently a consultant to the Royal Malaysian Police Force and an Advisor to a few universities.
