'𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐔𝐀𝐋 𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐏' 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐒𝐄 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐎

In this video, Rev. Dr. Tan Soo Inn introduces 'Spiritual Friendship,' a unique course by Alpha Omega International College, which will soon be kicking off. As facilitator of this upcoming offering, the seasoned teacher and minister introduces a few powerful principles that will be brought to the fore throughout the course.

He begins his commentary by reminding us how in John 15:15, Jesus makes a startling statement. Dr. Tan notes: “Talking to His disciples, Jesus states: 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴. By addressing His disciples, by extension of course, Jesus addresses all of us, who are His disciples.”

Expanding on the above precept, Dr. Tan goes on to say that Christ’s statement of friendship is made right before He is captured on goes on to the Cross. In His farewell discourse, Jesus gives His disciples the gift of His friendship, and says that they are to love each other as He has loved them.

This means that we too are to love each other as friends. But what does this mean? Jesus provides a clue when He alludes to the preparedness of laying down our lives for the friends we love. 𝐒𝐀𝐌𝐄 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍, 𝐃𝐈𝐅𝐅𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐔𝐀𝐆𝐄𝐒

Those who meet me for the first time are usually curious about my ethnic origin. Unabashedly they ask: “What are you exactly?” I am tempted to reply acerbically that I am Malaysian, but that never does cut it. Although I dislike having to tick a box race-wise, I’ve become resigned to the fact that in multicultural Malaysia, people tend to want to do this. As such, I inevitably pander to this need and reply, “I’m Indian.”
