Penang Bodhi Heart Sanctuary Bodhi Heart Sanctuary is a non-sectarian Buddhist Society nested in the busy city of Penang and yet among lush greenery.

Bodhi means awakening or enlightenment and bodhi-heart means a heart that is awakened or enlightened. An awakened or enlightened heart is a heart that is nurtured and balanced in the qualities of compassion and wisdom. The landscape, structure and activities of this Bodhi-Heart Sanctuary will then be an expression of and a guidance from both compassion and wisdom – hence, our motto Compassion with Wisdom.

Dorlop Rinpoché, Dr. Lye is back in Penang again! We have invited Rinpoche-la for a teaching and he has kindly accepted. He will be sharing some of the special instructions on lovingkindness (maitri/metta) from a set of 12th century texts that he recently published in English. This set of texts contain some very insightful and powerful lessons on how to cultivate lovingkindness and how the heart of lovingkindness can become a powerful source of protection, blessings and as well as basis for attaining freedom from samsara.

Our session with Rinpoche-la will be as follow:

All participants to this session will be given a copy of the text "A Compendium of Drikung Kyobpa’s Essential Oral Instructions on Lovingkindness" which will be used during the teaching. We welcome all to join us this Friday for a lunch dana and requisite offering to the members of the Sangha in Penang Bodhi Heart Sanctuary. We will offer the requisites at 11.15 am followed by a short chanting and offering of merits followed by the Lunch Dana offering. Luangpor Vimokkha Metino passed away at 6.52 am Thai time this morning.

Luangpor, an ardent supporter of the vision and mission of Penang bodhi Heart Sanctuary had taught at the Sanctuary to all his disciples without fail. We remember his smile and his joyful demeanor when teaching us meditation and sharing of the Dhamma.

We pray that the parami of Luangpor ripens for his attainment of the bliss of Nibbana and that we may emulate his joyful and caring loving kindness in our daily life as we walk the path of the Dhamma.

Dear Bodhihearts,

We will be hosting a series of workshop as part of a course here at the Sanctuary. This course is one of our Vassa programs and will be conducted by Ayasma Pamodadhammika and Philippe Leduc and is modeled after the Work of Byron Katie.

This course will consist of 2 Introductory Sundays followed by 6 thematic Sundays. You are only allowed to participate in any of the thematic Sundays if you had completed the Introductory Sundays OR have joined any of Ayasma's workshop before. A certificate of completion will be awarded to course participants who have successfully completed the entire course. Do refer to the posters for further information.

Starting from the start of Vassa, we will be having a brand new program with Sayadaw U Sopaka. The first session will be on 1st August , 10.30am at SilaBodhi Hall 1.

This is also in conjunction with the opening of the Zhao Hoay Coffee Station at VatikaBodhi. You can grab a cup of coffee at the coffee station before this session - no charges for the coffee - any donations are welcomed. OR you can grab a coffee from your favourite cafe or coffee stop on the way here.
