Notice to Parishioners of the Diocese of Sibu and the General Public.

Following the announcement by Bishop Joseph Hii Teck Kwong this morning on the passing of Dominic Su Haw Chiu, parishioners who wish to pay their last respects may do so at the Conference Room of Sacred Heart Cathedral from 2.00pm onwards on Friday, 15 May 2026.

The Encoffining Service for Bishop Emeritus Dominic Su will be held at 1.00pm on Saturday, 16 May 2026, followed by the Funeral Mass at 2.00pm at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Sibu, Sarawak.

Let us continue to keep Bishop Emeritus Dominic Su in our prayers and entrust him to the mercy and love of the Risen Lord.

Passing of Bishop Emeritus Dominic Su Haw Chiu, a day after the Church celebrated the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord.

With deep sorrow yet in the hope of the Resurrection, we announce that Dominic Su Haw Chiu, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Sibu, has returned to the Lord at 9.52am on Friday, 15th May 2026, at the age of 87.

Born on 26 May 1939, he was ordained a priest on 4 December 1969 and was appointed the first Bishop of Sibu on 22 December 1986. He was consecrated bishop on 6 January 1987 by Saint Pope John Paul II and installed on 11 February 1987. He faithfully shepherded the Diocese until his retirement on 24 December 2011, after which he was succeeded by Joseph Hii Teck Kwong.

We thank God for his devoted and tireless service to the Roman Catholic Church, his gentle shepherding of God’s people, and his witness of humility and faith. His life and ministry remains a lasting blessing to the Church in Sibu and beyond.

We invite all clergy, religious, and faithful to pray for the repose of his soul.

Appointment of members to the College of Consultors

Chancery Notice

His Grace, Most Reverend Archbishop John Wong, has officially announced the new appointments to the College of Consultors during the Clergy Meeting held on May 6 2026 at Bundu Tuhan.

These appointments follow the retirement of two long-serving members. The changes are effective immediately.

The Holy See Press Office has released the full itinerary for the apostolic journey of Pope Leo to Spain from June 6–11, a six-day visit that will include four Masses, twelve speeches, and meetings with political, ecclesial, cultural, and civic leaders across Madrid, Barcelona, and the Canary Islands. The Pope will arrive in Madrid on June 6 and be officially welcomed by King Felipe VI at the Royal Palace. He will later meet government officials, members of civil society, and the diplomatic corps before leading an evening prayer vigil with young people at Plaza de Lima. On June 7, the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, Pope Leo will celebrate Mass at Plaza de Cibeles, meet privately with members of the Order of Saint Augustine, and participate in a gathering with leaders from culture, business, the arts, and sports at the Movistar Arena. The following day, he will meet Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, address parliament at the Congress of Deputies, and meet bishops at the headquarters of the Spanish Bishops’ Conference before joining a diocesan gathering at Bernabéu Stadium. A central highlight of the journey comes on June 9 in Barcelona, where the Pope will inaugurate and bless the Tower of Jesus Christ at the iconic Sagrada Família, designed by Antoni Gaudí, on the centenary of his death. The Pope will also visit a homeless shelter in Madrid and a prison in Barcelona, emphasizing care for marginalized communities. On June 11, Pope Leo will travel to the Canary Islands, where migration will be the focus of the final stage of the trip. He will celebrate Mass in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife and encourage those assisting migrants arriving through the Atlantic route to Europe. The visit is expected to strengthen the Church’s presence in Spain while highlighting themes of faith, unity, compassion, and outreach to those on the margins of society.

Hari Khamis Kenaikan Tuhan mengingatkan kita akan saat Yesus Kristus diangkat ke syurga di hadapan para murid-Nya, seperti yang tertulis:
“Dia terangkat, lalu awan menutup-Nya dari pandangan mereka.” (Kisah Para Rasul 1:9)

Pada hari yang kudus ini, umat beriman berkumpul sebagai satu tubuh Kristus untuk merayakan kemuliaan Tuhan yang bangkit dan naik ke syurga, sambil menantikan janji penyertaan Roh Kudus.

Marilah datang bersama-sama dalam Perayaan Ekaristi untuk memuji dan memuliakan Tuhan yang hidup selama-lamanya.

Bagi umat yang tidak dapat hadir bersama, nyalakanlah lilin anda di altar ataupun di rumah sebagai tanda iman dan pengharapan, serta luangkanlah waktu untuk berdoa bersama keluarga agar kasih dan damai Kristus sentiasa menyertai kita semua.

Ascension Thursday reminds us of the moment Jesus Christ was taken up into Heaven before His disciples, as written:
“He was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight.” (Acts 1:9)

On this holy day, the faithful gather as one Body of Christ to celebrate the glory of the Risen Lord and His Ascension into Heaven, while awaiting the promise of the Holy Spirit.

Come and join us in the Holy Eucharist as we praise and glorify our Lord who reigns forever.

For those who are unable to attend, light a candle at the altar or in your home as a sign of faith and hope, and spend time in prayer with your family so that the love and peace of Christ may always remain with us all.
