SSVP, Conf Of St Martin de Porres, Melaka An international organization, Catholic in character with a mission to help those in need on a person-to-person basis especially the poor.

The society was founded by Frederic Ozanam in Paris in 1833 when he was a student of the University of Sorbonne during the time of civil unrest and immense suffering in France. Ozanam was inspired by ST. Vincent de Paul (1581-1660), a priest who devoted his entire life to serving the physical and spiritual needs of the poor. As a result of a debate on putting one’s faith in action, Frederic Ozanam and his fellow university students took the challenge, not only by serving the poor in the streets of Paris, but also being one with them. Today, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is found in 135 countries and Vincentian family numbers almost a million worldwide.
