According to Hindu scriptures, a disagreement once arose between Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma over who was supreme. To reveal the truth, Lord Shiva appeared as a magnificent, endless pillar of fire, so vast that neither could find its beginning or its end. This divine flame rose upon the sacred Arunachala hill in Thiruvannamalai, showing Lord Shiva’s infinite and all-pervading nature. Karthigai Deepam honours this eternal light that continues to shine from Thiruvannamalai, reminding us of the boundless presence of the divine.
