God’s forgiveness is proof of His love for you.
• Our natural tendency is to focus on our failures and shortcomings. We replay our mistakes and disqualify ourselves, wondering if God still loves us after all we’ve done.
• It goes against our natural human flesh to believe that God has forgiven us of all our sins. This is why we need to be re-established in and to hear the gospel of grace preached again and again.
• Grace is not based on what we deserve, but on what Jesus has done. So we need to keep returning to His finished work—not to fix ourselves but to be reminded that we are completely forgiven by His blood (Eph. 1:7)!
• And this forgiveness is the clearest demonstration of God’s love for us.
• Luke 7(36-39)
• 36 When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee's house and reclined at the table.
• 37 A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee's house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume.
• 38 As she stood behind him at his(1) feet weeping,(2) she began to wet his feet with her tears. (3)Then she wiped them with her hair, (4)kissed them and(5) poured perfume on them.
• 39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is-that she is a sinner.(Harlot)
• Luke 7
• 40 Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.”
• “Tell me, teacher,” he said.
• 41 “Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii,[a] and the other fifty.
• 42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”
• 43 Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.”
• “You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.
• 44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
• 45 You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”
• 48 Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
• 49 The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
• 50 Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
• Simon the Pharisees had all the doubt about Jesus.
• He thought that Jesus was like any other person who Judges immediately.
• He did not accept the fact that Jesus the King of kings has the ability to forgive sin and give peace.
• Simon criticized such behavior in his heart, but Jesus explained her actions by saying, “Her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much” (Luke 7:47).
• She was not trying to earn His forgiveness, but was responding out of the overflow of her heart, knowing that she had already been forgiven.
• Notice the difference? Adam hid because he felt condemned. This woman drew near because she knew she was forgiven. One pulled away in shame; the other came close in love.
• Receiving forgiveness does not lead to careless living. Instead, it produces love. And love, not fear, fulfills the first and greatest commandment in the Bible—“to love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength” (Deut. 6:5, Mark 12:30).
• Once you are established in the truth that your forgiveness in Christ is complete and absolute, condemnation will lose its grip on you, and life, freedom, and wholeness will begin to flow again in your life.
•
• Romans 5:17–20 — King James Version (KJV
• 17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
• 18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
• 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
• 20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
• Simon the Pharisee gave a good answer that the one who is forgiven most will love most.
• But, because of religion and law that has withhold him to see Jesus as the Savior.
• Where as the woman who knew she was a Harlot and need the forgiveness of God went to Jesus by faith.
• Ephesians 2:8–9 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
• 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
• The woman went home justified whereas Simon the Pharisee was unable to receive the justification by faith.
• Today if you come to Jesus believe that He is the Author and finisher of your faith.
• Matthew 21:31-32
• The Message
• 31-32 “Which of the two sons did what the father asked?”
• They said, “The first.”
• Jesus said, “Yes, and I tell you that crooks and wh**es are going to precede you into God’s kingdom. John came to you showing you the right road. You turned up your noses at him, but the crooks and wh**es believed him. Even when you saw their changed lives, you didn’t care enough to change and believe him.
• God’s forgiveness and His redemption plan is for everyone who believes.(Acts 13 38-39)
