The Sri Asdhatasa Buja Mahaletchumi Thurgai Parameswary Alayam, briefly and popularly known as or referred to as the “Thurgai Amman Alayam”is located at the Beverly Hills of Malaysia known as Damansara Heights at Lot 481300, Jalan Bukit Ledang, Off Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim, 50480 Kuala Lumpur. The Temple has existed since before Malaysia gained its independence. The workers of the former Socfin Es

tates (part of French plantations company called Socfin Plantations), which covered most of the present-day Bukit Damansara/Bangsar area, established the Temple on the site in the early 1920s. Legend has it that the “call” to establish the Temple was delivered by the Dewi herself to a local Devotee in his dream, who then did as “instructed” in his own humble way. Prayers were offered on a daily basis and it continues every day until today. This Temple is also very unique as its presiding Deity is a particular Thurgai Amman (Durga Dewi) that is hardly found anywhere else in Malaysia, that is, Durga Dewi’s manifestation with Eighteen Hands or Asthadasa (18) Buja (Hands). This form of Dewi is popularly known amongst Hindus the world over as “Mahalaxmi Chandika” or “Mahisasura Mardini”, that is the Slayer of the demon named Mahisasura! Dewi is also fondly called as Ämma or Maa” or colloquially amongst South Indians as Äatha” or “Ambal”, all terms refer to the “Divine Mother”. This Temple stands out as a unique abode of the Divine Mother due to Her presence being felt or experienced by many Devotees-visitors, prayers answered or wish fulfilled. There is also a legend that one day, a girl aged around 8 from one of the staff-quarters at the then estate, went to play in the temple at noon. The girl suddenly stumbled upon an old lady inside the sanctum-sanctorum of the Temple. The old lady was seen sitting there and massaging her untied long hair. Upon seeing the girl, the old lady scolded and ordered the girl to go home and never to enter the Temple again at high-noon. The girl ran back home and related the incident to her parents, who together with a few neighbours, ran towards the Temple to see who the strange old lady was. However, no one was at the Temple. That night, the girl fell asleep with a fever. The old lady appeared in the girl’s dream and consoled the girl that She was the “Amma” who was at the Temple, advised her not to play at the Temple during high-noon and blessed her. The names of the founder and the girl have been omitted for privacy reasons. Devotees, comprising former estate workers, their children and residents in and around Bukit Damansara, regularly pray at the Temple. Most of the families that used to work at the Socfin Plantations and their descendants are dispersed all over Kuala Lumpur and its surrounding areas. However, some of them from near and afar still continue to visit this Temple to pray on occasions as well as during religious or annual festivals. Today, many Hindu families who reside at Bukit Damansara and its adjoining areas such as Bukit Tunku, Bukit Kiara, Bangsar, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Petaling Jaya and from around the Klang Valley attend the daily prayers in the Temple and its weekly, monthly and other religious festivals. The Temple is a registered entity with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) under the aegis of Persatuan Penganut Thurgai Amman Kuala Lumpur which is managed by a Management Committee. On behalf of the Committee, we would like to welcome Devotees-Visitors to visit the Temple and obtain Amma’s blessings.

📜 Durga Saptashati – Bhagavad Gita
A Comparative Spiritual Insight

Śrī Chandi Ta**ra Mahā Vidyālaya warmly invites seekers, students, and spiritual aspirants to a special online lecture exploring the profound philosophical connections between two timeless spiritual classics — the Durga Saptashati (Devī Māhātmyam) and the Bhagavad Gītā.

While the Bhagavad Gītā unfolds as the divine dialogue of Śrī Kṛṣṇa guiding Arjuna through the principles of Dharma, Karma Yoga, Jñāna, and Bhakti, the Durga Saptashati reveals the majestic play of Ādi Śakti, the Divine Mother who restores cosmic balance and destroys the forces of adharma.

This lecture will reflect on how both scriptures illuminate the inner battlefield of the human mind, the struggle between higher awareness and ignorance, and the transformative grace of the Divine that guides the seeker toward inner strength, clarity, and liberation.

🗓 March 10, 2026 (Tuesday)
⏰ 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM IST
🌐 Free Online Lecture (English)

All sincere seekers of Sanātana Dharma, Śākta traditions, Vedānta, and scriptural wisdom are welcome to participate.
