The Sabbath was given by God in His wisdom, that His people should rest, to trust Him to provide and be refreshed in Him, and was also intended for them to remember His act of salvation.
Jesus Christ, the Son of Man, has come to be the Lord of the Sabbath, to bring true rest that we may cease from our sinful, futile striving to make up for our sin, but that we would rest in Christ and His finished work on the cross. But beyond that, through Jesus, we have the promise of a greater rest - an eternal rest with Christ in heaven.
Therefore as Christians today, we should neither rigidly observe the Sabbath nor ignore it completely, but rather, we should be viewing the Sabbath as restful worship in Christ.
