Blessed to have begun the Eve of the Nineveh Fast with a meaningful evening of prayer and reflection in our cathedral. As we journeyed into this Lenten season, we took this time to meditate on our personal walk with Christ . As Philip Achen shared in his homily, we should recognise and overcome the barriers that we have set between us and Christ.

Following the evening prayers, we kicked off our first Youth Fellowship of the year with a vibrant potluck! 🎉 A night filled with laughter, exciting games, and delicious food, strengthening our bond as a community. Looking forward to a year of faith, friendship, and growth together! 🙌✨

On the 23rd January 2025 at 8pm, The Orthodox Syrian Church in Malaysia hosted this year’s Prayer for Christian Unity. The week of Prayer for Christian Unity is held annually between the 18th to the 25th of January all over the world.

This years’ service is also significant because Christians all over the world are commemorating the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicea that was convened in 325 AD.

The theme for this year’s Prayer for Christian Unity 2025 is based on St. John 11 : 17-27 with the plunge live “Do you believe this (v.26)

The service was led by Cor Episcopa Philip Thomas Chairman of the Christian Federation of Malaysia and President of Council of Churches of Malaysia, Archbishop Julian Leow (Catholic Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur), Rev. Dr Eu Hong Seng (Chairman of the National Evangelical Christian Fellowship and other Church Leaders from the CFM member Churches in Malaysia.

Cor Episcopa Philip Thomas in his homily enumerated that in Nicea, the Church gathered to preserve the unity of the One Church. Today, although we are many, we must put our trust and hope in the Resurrection of Christ - to converge and be united through our resurrection experience which we have been initiated into by baptism (Rom 6:5)

The Choir presentations by the Orthodox Syrian Church, Canctus Musicus and the REC Myanmar Youth added to the solemnity of the Christian Unity Prayer. All who participated in the service felt a warm sense of love and joy.

Everyone gathered around the table for refreshments, fellowship and good conversations. Church Unity is indeed a joyful experience.

The Feast of Epiphany, celebrated on January 6th every year, is a commemoration of the baptism of our Lord Jesus Christ by John the Baptist at the River Jordan. It is a time to reflect on the significance of our own Baptism and Chrismation, as well as the outpouring of the Holy Spirit's Gifts. A special service of "Blessing of the Water" is conducted before the Holy Eucharist, offering an opportunity to contemplate the profound impact of these sacraments and guiding us to experience the Fruits of the Holy Spirit in our renewed lives.

During the beautiful message delivered by Very Rev. Philip Thomas Cor Episcopa, Achen spoke of a Japanese pseudoscientist; Dr Maraso Emoto, who studied how human consciousness could affect the molecular structure of water. If negative things are spoken to the water, the structure will be different unlike if positive things were spoken to the water.

Achen then correlated water to humans, noting that 70% of our bodies are made up of water. If one is surrounded by negativity and embraces it, one’s structure begins to change. When a child is baptised, the child is new and the baptism is attributed to be a physical structural foundation for the child to grow in the likeness of God.

The Epiphany is not just establishing baptism. It is establishing an avenue for us to participate in this divine nature of Christ and intentionally seeking the grace from our baptism so that we can be transformed from one glory to another, transformed to his likeness.
