For this year's Global Youth Day celebration, the KLEC Youth led the church in prayer, study of the Word, praise, and community service. It is our desire to continue to see "Communion in Action" in our local church not just on GYD but every day till our Savior comes. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

The worldโ€™s five Blue Zones Okinawa, Sardinia, Nicoya, Icaria, and Loma Linda are regions where people consistently live the longest. A major shared factor among these populations is their whole-food, plant-based diet, rich in legumes, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, with very minimal or no animal products. This diet contributes to exceptional longevity, lower rates of chronic disease, and significantly reduced dementia.

Loma Linda Adventists stand out because, unlike the other regions with ancient cultures, they live within modern North American society yet still enjoy about ten extra years of life with fewer diseases. This shows that adopting the Adventist lifestyle including a plant-based diet is possible even in environments with high chronic disease rates.

Ultimately, every bite of food influences our bodyโ€™s โ€œbiological softwareโ€, either positively or negatively. Therefore, choose foods made by God natural, colorful, whole foods and avoid humanโ€‘processed foods high in sugar and fat.

Rest is essential for physical, mental, and emotional health. Adequate sleep helps with memory formation, metabolism, immune function, mental well-being, and reduces the risk of chronic disease. However, modern lifestyles and exposure to blue light at nightโ€”from screens and artificial lightingโ€”disrupt circadian rhythms, suppress melatonin, and impair sleep. Even low levels of light can interfere with melatonin production, which is vital for good sleep, mood, and daytime alertness.

Melatonin levels can be supported by getting bright daylight exposure, limiting blue light at night through filters or blue-light-blocking glasses, and aiming for 7โ€“8 hours of sleep nightly.

Rest also includes observing the Sabbath, a weekly day of rest that promotes spiritual renewal, family connection, and stress reduction. Research shows Sabbath observance is associated with better physical and mental health and even reduced mortality, likely due to healthier coping mechanisms, social support, diet, and exercise.
