This Sunday, ManHon, one of our elders, preached from Joshua 23 on The Faithfulness We Cannot Keep.

As Joshua neared the end of his life, he reminded God’s people of one undeniable truth: God had kept every promise He made. Not one word had failed.

Yet Joshua also knew the danger facing God’s people was not an enemy army, but a drifting heart. The call was simple: “Cling to the LORD your God.” (Joshua 23:8)

The challenge for us is not merely remembering God’s faithfulness, but turning toward Him and holding fast to Him in the ordinary moments of life. We all know what faithfulness requires. The problem is that none of us can keep it perfectly.

The good news of Joshua 23 is not found in the strength of our grip on God, but in the faithfulness of Jesus Christ, the true and better Joshua. Where God’s people failed, He obeyed perfectly. Where we let go, He held fast. Through His death and resurrection, He secured our place with God and gave us His Spirit to turn our hearts back to Him again and again.

We cling because we are already held.

A moment of misunderstanding nearly divided God’s people. Instead, it became a reminder of what really holds them together.

Doug, our covenant partner preached from Joshua 22 today. God’s promises move us to obey. His warnings keep us from drifting. And when we respond with humility and praise, unity is restored.

Like the altar by the Jordan, we all need a witness—something that reminds us we belong. For us, that’s the cross. When doubt, fear, or accusation comes, we look to Jesus and remember we are His, and that nothing can separate us from His love.

We also heard from Zach and Macy about how the gospel changed their lives, as they officially come alongside us as covenant partners!

What does life under God’s rule look like?

In Joshua 20–21, we see a God who provides perfect justice, prioritizes His presence among His people, and continually puts on display His covenant faithfulness.

Thankful for Chris, one of our elders, for faithfully preaching God’s Word and reminding us that even now, God is showing us glimpses of His kingdom — on earth as it is in heaven.
This passage leads us to reflect on the character of God revealed through His justice, the way He continues to sustain the faithful teaching of His Word among His people, and the many ways we have personally experienced His faithfulness throughout our lives.

And ultimately, these chapters point us to Jesus — our true refuge and our true rest. In Him, we find safety, mercy, and the faithful presence of God dwelling with His people forever. May these truths not remain only in our minds, but shape the way we live, trust, and worship Him.
