Ever felt irritated by a brother or sister in Christ? Surely we understand the struggle to get along with someone of a different temperament in a church.

Today, we kicked off our new sermon series “Love Your Church” by looking at Ephesians 2:11-22. We don’t belong because of what we have done. Instead, Christ is the one who has brought us near, reconciled us to God and each other and made us members of God’s household. The gospel breaks down walls of hostility, the lines we draw and the judgments we make. That brother or sister who irritates you, is a brother or a sister.

So what will make you and me love the church? It’s the love of Christ. When we were far off, Christ died for us, forgiving us of our sins and adopted us into the family of God. We learn to love the church to the extent that we see how Christ loves the church.

What does it truly mean to belong?

The gospel offers us something far deeper: a home where we are fully known, brought near through Christ, and built together as the family of God.

This Sunday, we’re kicking off Week 1 of our Love Your Church series with a look at Belonging (Ephesians 2:11–22).

Jesus died for our sins and because of that, though we may be different from one another in many ways, we can live as a community rooted in His grace - a place where every one of us truly belongs.

What does it really mean to love the church, not just in words, but in the way we live, show up, and relate to one another?

We can love the church because God first loved us. He showed us His love through the gospel, giving us Christ when we did not deserve it. And that love changes how we see and love the people God has placed around us. What does Scripture call us to when relationships get messy, serving gets costly, or community feels uncomfortable?

Our new “Love Your Church” series starts this Sunday, as we explore what it means to live out the love we have first received from God.

Join us as we grow together in what it means to love and build up the body of Christ.

Last Sunday, Von preached from James 5:13–20, wrapping up our series through James with the title “The Life of Faith Together.”

James closes his letter with three final thoughts:

First, we are called to pray. In both suffering and joy, we are called to pray—not just individually, but together. Sometimes, faith simply looks like saying, “I need somebody to pray over me.”

Second, God works through prayer. Like Elijah, an ordinary man whom God used for extraordinary purposes, we are reminded that the power is not in us, but in God who hears our prayers.

Finally, grace for the wanderers. We are called to look out for one another and help those who wander, remembering that we too are dependent on God’s grace.

We were never meant to live the life of faith alone. We need one another; to pray for one another, and remind each other of God’s grace.

Our church family also gathered in our traditional Malaysian outfits to celebrate Merdeka and we prayed together for our nation. 🇲🇾

This Sunday, we walk through James 5:13–20 to learn about “The Life of Faith Together.”

Because of Christ, we don’t walk the Christian life alone. In joy and suffering, in weakness and wandering, we are called to pray for one another, care for one another, and help bring one another back to the truth.

Come as you are—whether in joy, in struggle, or in need of prayer—and be reminded of the grace of Jesus that holds us together as one body.

What are we putting our hope in while we wait for Jesus to return?

Today, our Staff Elder, Von, brought us through James 5:1–12 and reminded us that the things of this world can easily give us a false sense of security.

God is not anti-prosperity. The issue is not simply having wealth or possessions, but what place we have in our hearts. Do we have possessions, or do our possessions have us?

Wealth fades. Circumstances change. But the Lord is coming, and His promises are sure.

James calls us to wait like a farmer waiting patiently for the harvest — with hope, endurance and faithfulness. Our waiting is not passive. We keep trusting God, doing what is right, and living with our eyes fixed on Christ.

Knowing that Jesus will return should shape the way we live today — what we value, what we worry about, how we treat others, and where we place our hope.

Until the Lord comes, may we hold loosely to the things of this world, set our hope fully on Christ, and live faithfully before Him.
