𝟐𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐎𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞
𝐆𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐥: 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐰 𝟏𝟖:𝟏𝟓-𝟐𝟎
𝐅𝐫 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐬

When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, the first proclamation of the angels was a message of peace: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace.” From the very beginning, the coming of Christ was announced as the coming of peace.

And peace and reconciliation go together. There can be no lasting peace where there is no willingness to forgive, to reconcile and to restore relationships.

In today’s Gospel from Matthew 18:15-20, Jesus speaks very directly about reconciliation. He knows very well that reconciliation is not easy. It is perhaps one of the most difficult things we are asked to do as Christians.

That is precisely why Jesus makes it part of the responsibility of discipleship.

Jesus says, “If your brother or sister sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone.” Notice that Jesus does not say, “Talk about the person with someone else.” He says, go to the person.

How often we do the opposite! When someone hurts us, we tell others before we speak to the person concerned. We seek sympathy, we gather people who agree with us, and sometimes we allow a small disagreement to become a much bigger conflict.

Jesus gives us another way: take the first step. Speak personally. Listen. Seek understanding. Give the other person an opportunity to explain.

And if reconciliation is difficult, Jesus says, bring another person. The purpose is not to prove who is right or who is wrong, but to help restore communion.

This is important because making peace is not primarily about winning an argument. It is about remaining one in the Body of Christ.

Sometimes we hold on to disagreements over very small things. We refuse to reconcile because we think that taking the first step means admitting that we were wrong.

But Jesus calls us to a higher value. He calls us to place unity above our pride, relationship above our ego, and communion above the need to be right.

That is why, before receiving Holy Communion, we offer one another the sign of peace. It is not merely a polite gesture. It expresses what we are about to receive: Christ who makes us one.

We cannot receive the Body of Christ while deliberately refusing to be reconciled with a brother or sister who is also part of that Body.

Perhaps today we need to ask ourselves: Who is the person with whom I need to make peace? Is there someone I have avoided? Someone whose message I refuse to answer? Someone I continue to speak about rather than speak to?

Reconciliation does not mean pretending that nothing happened. It does not mean that every disagreement will disappear immediately. It means choosing not to allow resentment, pride or hurt to have the final word.

The practical change Jesus asks of us is simple but demanding: stop waiting for the other person to make the first move. Take one step towards peace.

Speak rather than gossip. Listen rather than judge. Forgive rather than keep score. And when necessary, seek the help of others to rebuild what has been broken.

Jesus came among us as the Prince of Peace. If we are truly his disciples, then peace cannot remain only a beautiful word we hear at Christmas or a gesture we exchange at Mass. Peace must become the way we live.

Pope Leo XIV began the five-week Season of Creation by calling on the faithful to step away from the frenzy of daily life to “hear the melodious voice of creation,” stressing that “it is not yet too late” to repair humanity’s relationship with the environment.

Celebrating Mass Sept. 1 in the gardens of the papal villa and the Borgo Laudato Si’ ecology project in Castel Gandolfo, the pope said contemplating creation and its Creator should lead people to recognize their responsibility for protecting it.

Friday, 4th September, 22nd Week in Ordinary Time

Reflection
1 Corinthians 4:1–5, Luke 5:33–39

"Openness To God’s Presence"
St. Paul in the first reading wrote, “People must think of us as Christ’s servants, stewards entrusted with the mysteries of God.” We are reminded that we are stewards of God’s message; this is our identity. However, we often act as judges, forming conclusions about others’ choices and weaknesses, but only God knows what is in each person’s heart. St. Paul reminds us to avoid judging based on appearances. Let us ask for the grace to be humble and approach each individual withbcompassion and understanding.

In the Gospel, the religious leaders questioned Jesus about His disciples not fasting. Jesus answered that His presence is like a bridegroom bringing joy, and therefore it is not a time for the wedding guests to fast. In Jesus, God has lovingly come close to His people. His disciples were to rejoice in the gift of being with Him. Jesus spoke about the need for new wineskins for new wine, reminding us to remain open to the new things that God is doing. May we never allow fear or our attachment to familiar routines to prevent God from bringing newness, renewal and transformation in our hearts.

What is holding me back from letting God work in my life for my own good?

“敞开心扉迎接天主的临在”
圣保禄在读经一中写道：“人们应当把我们看作基督的仆人和天主各种奥秘工程的管家。” 这提醒我们，我们是天主讯息的管家；这是我们的身份。然而，我们常常扮演批判者，对别人的选择和弱点妄下断言，但只有天主才知道每个人的内心。圣保禄提醒我们，不要以貌取人。让我们祈求恩典，谦卑待人，以怜悯和理解之心对待每一个人。

在福音中，宗教领袖们质问耶稣，为什么祂的门徒没有禁食? 耶稣回答说，祂的临在如同新郎带来喜乐，所以此时此刻，宾客们无需禁食。在耶稣内，天主慈爱地亲近了祂的子民。祂的门徒应当为与祂同在的恩赐而欢欣鼓舞。耶稣谈到新酒需要新皮囊，提醒我们要敞开心扉，迎接天主正在成就的新事。愿我们永远不要让恐惧或对习惯的依恋阻止天主在我们心中带来新生、更新和改变。

"Terbuka kepada Kehadiran Allah"
Dalam pembacaan pertama Santo Paulus menulis, “Demikianlah hendaknya orang memandang kami; sebagai hamba-hamba Kristus, yang kepadanya dipercayakan rahsia Allah.” Kita diingatkan bahawa kita adalah pengurus mesej Allah; inilah identiti kita. Namun, kita sering bertindak sebagai hakim, membuat Kesimpulan tentang pilihan dan kelemahan orang lain, tetapi hanya Allah yang tahu apa yang ada di hati setiap orang. Santo Paulus mengingatkan kita untuk mengelakkan menghakimi berdasarkan penampilan. Marilah memohon rahmat untuk bersikap rendah hati dan mendekati setiap individu dengan belas kasihan dan pemahaman.

Dalam Injil, para pemimpin agama bertanya kepada Yesus mengapa murid-murid-Nya yang tidak berpuasa. Yesus menjawab bahawa kehadiran-Nya adalah seperti pengantin lelaki yang membawa sukacita. Oleh itu, bukanlah masanya untuk para tetamu perkahwinan berpuasa. Dalam diri Yesus, Allah telah datang mendekati umat-Nya dengan penuh kasih. Para murid-Nya dipanggil untuk bersukacita atas anugerah dapat bersama-Nya. Yesus juga berbicara tentang perlunya kantung kulit yang baru untuk menyimpan anggur yang baru, mengingatkan kita supaya sentiasa terbuka terhadap perkara-perkara baharu yang sedang dilakukan Allah. Semoga kita tidak pernah membiarkan ketakutan atau keterikatan kepada kebiasaan lama menghalang Allah daripada membawa pembaharuan, penyegaran dan perubahan dalam hati kita.

Taja pia, kitai suah nyadi akim, ngaga simpul penemu pasal pilih sereta pengelemi orang bukai, tang semina Alalh Taala aja nemu utai ti bisi dalam ati tiap iku orang. Dalam Jesus, Allah Taala udah enggau pengerindu datai semak ngagai nembiak Iya. Sida murid Iya patut gaga ati ketegal pemeri begulai enggau Iya. Jesus bejaku pasal begunaka kambut wain ti baru ke wain ti baru, ngingatka kitai ngambika meruan tebuka ati ngagai utai ti baru ti dikereja Allah Taala. Awakka kitai anang sekali-kali ngemendarka penakut tauka pengerindu kitai ngagai pengawa ti selalu dikereja ti ditemu kitai nagang Allah Taala mai utai ti baru, pemansang enggau transformasyen dalam ati kitai.
