‘Amirtham’ or Amirtha Thannir (Nectar) Poojai is a form of Devotion practiced among followers of “Pathayatirai” (Pilgrimage on foot) for Ayyapan, Murugan, Amman and other Swamies in their vow for a safe pilgrimage (Yathirai). Practiced for generations and considered a taboo amidst the western world and modern Hindus, the ritual requires devotees to overcome mind over matter by their faith. Supplement extracts from various food items (Rice or other grain Flour, Saffron, Ghee, Milk, Curd, Honey, Sugarcane Juice, Variety of Sugars, Banana, Dry Fruits, Extracts of food of 6 variance in taste, Young/Tender coconut water, Vibuthi, etc) is form into a dough (Paniyaram). The dough is further reformed into a smaller round shapes by devotees and fried in oil till its golden brown. Devotees are than encouraged to pick the fried dough ( Paniyaram ) with their bare hand in Faith and walk toward the alter with their offering. The fried dough ( Paniyaram ) is later consumed by devotees , packed with energy and revitalizing heath benefiting ingredients it’s believed that the fried Dough( Paniyaram ) will assist the devotees in their pilgrimage. The Amirtha Poojai is commonly performed by a Guru, Pandaram or a Devotee of Faith normally accompanied with Chanda melam and Bhajans
