It is easy to romanticize the Nativity and miss the profound reality of Christmas Day. The account in Luke 2 shows us a God who is the Master of history, orchestrating the arrival of Jesus and moving in our lives right now. His plans are never hindered by our struggles; He fulfills His Word even in the midst of our most difficult moments. Knowing this, we are called to be messengers of His grace. This Christmas, let us reflect with the heart of Mary and respond with the zeal of the shepherds.

Mark 6:45–52 reveals three profound truths for whenever we face the "headwinds" of life. First, we must realize that difficulty is not necessarily a sign of God’s displeasure; often, He is the one who directs us into the storm to grow our faith. Second, even in the darkness of the "fourth watch," we are never out of His sight. He sees our straining at the oars. Finally, His presence is the ultimate storm-breaker. When we recognize Him in our midst, His peace silences our fears. When Jesus in the vessel, we can smile at the wind.

Our mandate isn't to initiate a separate task, but to participate in what the Father is already accomplishing, much like Jesus does only what He witnesses His Father doing. Therefore, the task for us is threefold: to acknowledge God's ongoing work, to seek out His specific will, and to intentionally work alongside Him.
