“Ad Limina Apostolorum”

Ad Limina's Visit: Meaningful Meeting of the Bishops of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei With Pope Leo XIV
On 18 to 23 May 2026, the bishops from Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei conducted the Ad Limina visit and had the opportunity to meet Pope Leo XIV in Rome. This visit was not just an official visit, but had a profound meaning in the life of the Catholic Church.
The term Ad Limina Apostolorum comes from a Latin meaning “to the threshold of the apostles”. In this visit, the bishops will visit the tombs of Saints Peter and Saint Paul and meet with the pope to share the Church's developments, challenges and hopes in their respective countries.
For the regions of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, this meeting will certainly be a special moment. Although the three countries have different cultural, language and society backgrounds, the Church still shares the same spirit in service, gospel preaching and people's lives.
In an ever-changing world atmosphere, the Church also faces various challenges such as the need to mentor young people, strengthen families, encourage the call of faith, and bring a message of hope to the community. Visits like these allow bishops to speak directly with the pope about the realities facing in the Southeast Asian region.
The meeting with Pope Leo XIV is also a sign of unity between the local Church and the universal Church. It reminds the congregation that despite being far from the center of the Church in Rome, every community remains a part of the large family of the Catholic Church around the world.
The visit, which lasts from May 18 to 23, 2026, will also be an opportunity for bishops to present reports on pastoral life, Church ministry and the development of the people in their respective dioceses. At the same time, it becomes a time to renew the spirit of service and strengthen the relationship between the local Church and the global Church center.
For people in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, this visit can be seen as an opportunity to continue praying for the bishops to be led with wisdom, fortitude and a spirit of service. May the outcome of this meeting bring hope, renewal and a renewed spirit to continue serving the people and build a Church that is getting closer to the community.
Indeed, the visit of Ad Limina was not just an official trip to Rome, but also a journey of faith, bringing the voices of pilgrims from Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei to be shared with the pope and the universal Church.
