Notice the word always. Not just when the sun is shining, not just when the bills are paid, not just when relationships are easy. Always.

Paul wrote this from a prison cell. If anyone had an excuse to be bitter, it was him. Yet he commands—and then repeats—the call to rejoice. Why? Because joy in the Lord is not dependent on circumstances. It is a choice rooted in the unchanging character of God.

Your situation may not be joyful right now, but you can still rejoice. Rejoice that He is with you. Rejoice that He has already won the victory. Rejoice that this struggle is not the end of your story. Choose joy today—not as a denial of pain, but as a declaration of who holds your future.

“Agur, the writer of Proverbs 30, asked for something remarkable - “”neither poverty nor riches””. This is not “”moderation”” in practice; rather that the Agur asked for what is right / alloted to him - according to the wisdom of the provider. His intention was to keep himself from straying towards being puffed up “”Lest I be full and deny You”” or lacking basic needs till the point of committing theft “”Or lest I be poor and steal””.

There is a great risk of any of us falling to pride and denying God, when we have “”riches”” - things going well, our wallets & bellies full for example. Or we could similarly deny God when we lack things that we want, even basic needs.

What do we ask God for today & tomorrow?
Do we seek the same - that we be given the right conditions to remain faithful and to love our Lord our God?”
