Our Congregations
The KCMC is basically a Hokkien based congregation and sermons were occasionally preached in other dialects, including Cantonese. Needs of a new generation eventually required translation into English (during sermons) for many years. It was not until 1988 that a separate English Service began and was inaugurated on 10th July that year. It began with about 50 members for the firs
t two years and was initially held in the afternoon at a wing of the church building. In 1991 the 2nd floor was renovated and converted into English Service Chapel so that the service could be held in the morning. As numbers grew, it eventually moved to the main sanctuary and finally to the ground floor in 1998. Mandarin Service began in October 1996 to reach out to a wider audience, while still retaining a small Hokkien Service. In May 1999 we saw yet another service, the Bahasa Malaysia/Indonesia Service was started to cater to the needs of Indonesian students. Today, we have 3 Worship Services (Hokkien, Mandarin, English) running almost concurrently. In The Beginning
Founded in 1898 by a British missionary, KCMC began as a home meeting and pastored by an early day convert. It was not until the 1920's that the present site of the old church was used for Sunday Worship Services. It was initially built as wooden building with "atap" (palm fronds) roof and was later upgraded to brick walls and wooden roof. The church building was shared by both the Wesley and the Tamil Methodist Church. Extension to the sanctuary and the building of a new Christian Education Centre was completed in 1955. It was not until 1973 that the church under the late Rev Peter Hsu purchased the piece of land on which the present building was built and subsequently dedicated on 12th December 1977. Preaching Points
Preaching Points were established that included Banting, Tanjung Karang, Tanjung Sepat, Tanjung Malim, Kapar, Subang Jaya(1982), Dengkil(1983), Kuala Kubu Bharu(1984), Rasa(1985), Shah Alam(1987) and finally Puchong Perdana(partnering with Shah Alam) in 1997. Most of these Preaching Points have now attained independent local church status. The kindergarten ministry began in 1972 and in 1976, it expanded to Pulau Ketam.
