ஆலயங்களில் விஜயதசமி அன்று வன்னி மரத்துடன் கூடிய
வாழை வெட்டுவது வழக்கம்..

பண்டாசுரனுடன் தேவி போர் செய்த போது சிவபிரானை வழிபட்டு விஜயதசமியில் போர் செய்யும் போது அசுரன் வன்னி மரத்தில் ஒளிந்தான்.

தேவி வன்னி மரத்தை சங்கரித்து அசுரனைச் சங்காரம் செய்து சங்கநாதத்துடன் வெற்றியை அறிவித்தாள்..!

இதுவே நாளடைவில் கன்னிவாழை வெட்டு என்று வழங்கலாயிற்று.

அசுரனைச் சங்கரித்த நேரம் மாலை வேளை, அந்தி வானம் சிவக்கும் மாலை வேளையில் இதனை ஞாபகப்படுத்தும் முகமாக வாழை வெட்டுவது வழக்கம்.
விஜயதசமி அன்று காலையில் சுவையுள்ள பிரசாதங்கள் சக்திக்கு நிவேதித்து நவமியில் வைத்துள்ள புத்தகம் இசைக்கருவிகளை இசைத்து வழிபடுகிறோம்..!

நவராத்திரியில் ஸ்ரீதேவியைத் (திருமகளைத்) துதித்து வழிபடுவோர்களுக்கு சகல சௌபாக்கியங்களையும் நல்குவாள் வீட்டுப்பேறாகிய முக்தியையும் நல்குவாள்.

mātarme madhukaiṭabhaghni mahiṣaprāṇāpahārodyame helānirmita dhūmralocanavadhe he chaṇḍamuṇḍārdini |

niśśeṣīkṛta raktabījadanuje nitye niśuṁbhāpahe śuṁbhadhvaṁsini saṁharāśu duritaṁ durge namaste’mbike ||

(Meaning: O! Devi!! You have decimated demons like Madhu, Kaiṭabha, Mahiṣasura, Dhūmralocana, Chaṇḍa, Muṇḍa, Raktabīja, Niśuṁbha, Śuṁbha. You are eternal. O! Durga Devi, please remove all my sins at the earliest.)
