The True Meaning of Christmas:
By Dionne Shumba
Please take few minutes to read this and reflect upon your life.
I'm wondering how the true meaning of Christmas went from being about the 3 Wise men bringing gifts to Baby Jesus to being about Santa Clause and his Elfs cruising around on a Reindeer powered sledge in the middle of the night, going down people's chimneys to leave gifts for ONLY the good kids. How wrong is that perception of Christmas, and what the world has made it out to be.. Making little children believe Santa exists and he has a magic factory which makes toys for kids who have been good.
No no no no no, Christmas is all about reflecting back on the birth of our Saviour King Jesus Christ, it marks the beginning of an amazing, pure life, that had to be taken away that we ourselves may have life. That little baby boy, who was conceived through the Holy Spirit, and born in a manger, to the blind eye HE was just another baby boy, but to those who knew the word and promises of God, they knew He was no ordinary baby, He was and is the Saviour of the whole world. He came that we may have life, and have it abundantly. A pure lamb, sacrificed for our transgressions, that we may gain life and life eternal.
So today I ask you to check yourself. What have you been celebrating all these years on Christmas Day? Whatever it is, lets make this Christmas and those to follow different. Let us remember our Saviour Jesus Christ, and just spend time Praising and Worshiping Him, and being in awe of who He is, and what He has done for us.
Matthew 2:11 - "On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh."
I'm pretty sure we are all busy doing our Christmas shopping, or have already done so, looking for the best gifts money can by for our families and friends, planning BBQs, Christmas Dinners etc. We do so much to make sure our loved ones get the best for Christmas, and making sure we spend as much time as we can with them during this time.. So this Christmas I challenge you, why don't we make it a point to spend some quality time in the presence of God, just worshipping Him and Praising Him, and why don't we all put aside an extra special offering for our Lord Jesus Christ, and just say thank you. Above all, lets make it all about Him. In all we do may we glorify the name of the Almighty God.
Blessed Christmas to you all..
