During the month of November the Church sheds a light on the souls of the faithful departed and asks Catholics to pray for the repose of their souls.

Besides the many traditional ways of praying for the holy souls, there is a Chaplet of the Holy Souls that uses rosary beads as a guide for the prayers.

Little is known about the origin of this particular chaplet, besides the fact that it has been passed down over the centuries. It is a beautiful prayer, one that is short and easy to fit in during the day.

POLO CHURCH (San Diego de Alcala Parish)

The town of Polo (now Valenzuela City) was then part of Bulacan. Franciscan Fray Francisco de Sta. Maria, OFM was the first missionary in Polo. The Stone church under the patronage of San Diego de Alcala was built and was completed in 1632. Through successive efforts of Fray Juan Taranco, OFM and Don Juan Monsod, sitio Polo was separated from Catanghalan, Bulacan on November 7, 1621. On November 7, 1975, jurisdiction over Valenzuela was moved from the province of Bulacan to
Metro Manila.

The main structure of the church was destroyed by bombs during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines in World War II. The belfry and entrance are the only parts of the four-century-old edifice that remain today.

The belfry or bell tower of San Diego de Alcala Church is a cultural and religious relic of the Spanish era. A new church has since been rebuilt and renovated adjacent to the ruins, serving as an aesthetic counterpoint to the largely unchanged tower.
