This Sunday, we will be praying for Taiwan, formally known as the Republic of China.

Here are somethings that you can be praying for Taiwan:

While churches in the urban areas are seeing some growth, the rural areas are resistant to the gospel, being deeply entrenched in folk religion. These religious practices are a significant part of their lives, and even Christians face tremendous familial pressure to participate. Pray that Taiwanese Christians will come to know Christ so deeply and truly that it compels them to bring this mind-blowing good news of Jesus to the rural areas. Pray that God will help them live out the gospel in ways that set them apart. Pray that God will also soften the hearts of the Taiwanese to the gospel.

Many pastors are retiring with no one to replace them. Pray that God will raise up a generation of leaders to equip the Taiwanese saints for gospel work. Above all, pray that the Taiwanese church will be firmly rooted in the soil of the gospel, never wandering left or right, that they may truly be the pillar of truth as God intends for them to be.

Can you say you have faith but have nothing to show for it?

This Sunday, we continue our journey through the Book of James as we open up James chapter 2.

James cuts through empty religion and calls Christians to act, because real faith produces real action. It shows up in how we treat people, how we love our neighbours, and how we live our everyday lives. This isn't about earning our salvation — it's about what genuine trust in God actually looks like.

Whether you're a longtime believer wrestling with doubt, or someone exploring faith for the first time, this message is for you. Come with your questions too!

This coming Sunday, we will be praying for Hong Kong, or formally, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.

Our partners in Hong Kong have requested that we continue to pray:
1) That Christians will keep growing in Christ through daily discipline of Bible reading and quiet time
2) That Christians will be thoughtful in applying Scriptural principles to overcome the challenges arise daily.
3) That as Hong Kong becomes an increasingly geriatric population, Christians will take opportunity in their retirement to bring their peers to Christ with wisdom, and for the church to accommodate them.
4) That in their current church, they will be bold and yet humble, wise yet loving to withstand challenges they are facing.

This coming Sunday, we will be praying for North Korea, or formally, the People's Democratic Republic of Korea.

Despite being raised in a Presbyterian family, and being the grandson of a minister, and the son of an elder, Kim Il Sung rose to become the first Supreme Leader of the nation, founding the largest and longest lasting personality cult in the world.

Today, North Korea remains one of the hardest nations for Christians to live in, and for the gospel to reach. Refugees fleeing into China are screened for Christian contact, while at home, whole families are punished for religious practice. Despite that, many North Koreans continue to come into contact with the gospel and come to faith, despite the cost.

A country expert explains what makes North Korea so dangerous for Christians—and why the regime will stop at nothing to stop the spread of the gospel.

Welcome back to our weekly (hopefully) section on Praying for the Church and the World. In this section, we will be posting some information on the countries and issues that we will be praying for as a congregation on Sunday so that we can pray with understanding.

Japan has been historically difficult to evangelise, in part due to their work culture that leaves no space for much life outside the office, and of their poor relationship with religion (see Sarin gas incident, and Unification Church).

In recent years, the rapidly declining Japanese population has pushed Japan towards opening their doors to accepting more immigrants. With an influx of immigrants, Japan's well-defined culture now is in flux, which makes many uncomfortable. This also opens up ministry opportunities with people groups that are difficult to reach within their own home countries, like Pakistan.

Pastor Fukuda (of the article) has since retired, but the work that he has been involved with continues to grow. Others more known to us, like Chenny, also continue to labour in this difficult field.

We can find encouragement from the words of Jesus in his parable of the yeast.
'He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.”' (Matt 13:33)

How a church-planting network -- watered by an earthquake and a tsunami -- is springing up in Asia's toughest mission ground.

Please take note that there will be no church services, both Cantonese and English, on the 15th as we will be at our annual Family Camp.
