On Sun May 10, Pr Andrew encouraged the congregation to develop a humble and transformed heart in a sermon titled "Counterfeit Transformation" (Ephesians 4:17-25). Key points:
1) Many Christians conform but never transform... We begin to transform when our minds begin to perceive things differently.
2) We live lies as if they were the truth.
3) We settle for inspiration and conviction rather than transformation.
4) The mind is renewed by studying the Word reflectively. .. Develop a heart of humility. .. Cease all blame.

What are examples of inspiration or conviction that do not lead to lasting change? Why does transformation begin with the renewal of the mind and perception? How has God’s Word personally inspired or convicted you toward transformation, and what practical steps can help you develop a humble and transformed heart?

On Sun May 3, Pr Andrew encouraged the congregation to practice giving out of love and gratitude to God, in a message titled "Counterfeit Giving" (2 Corinthians 8:1-9). Key points:
1) Giving is never about resources but about the heart.
2) Genuine giving is when we give out of our love and gratitude to God.
3) Always view yourself from the receiving side rather than the giving side.
4) Imitate until it becomes genuine.

What do you naturally spend your time, money, and energy on - and what does this reveal about your love and priorities, especially in relation to God? How does your giving reflect your love and gratitude to God, and what might it say about your current spiritual state? How can you grow in gratitude to God - both in how you think (seeing yourself as a receiver) and in what you choose to do starting today?

On Sun Apr 26, our Hokkien-speaking congregation celebrated its 20th anniversary with a meaningful service and fellowship, marking two decades of faith and transformation.

Guest preacher Pr Wong Mun Wah delivered a sermon based on 1 Corinthians 15:58, reminding the congregation that their labour in the Lord is “not in vain”. His message encouraged the congregation to remain steadfast and committed as they continue their faith journey.

The service concluded with a joyful anniversary lunch at Noble Season Restaurant, where members shared fellowship and memories. A highlight was the anniversary cake-cutting ceremony, led by Pr Andrew Lim, Pr Peter Lim, Pr Hwa Jen, and other church leaders.

Our Hokkien-speaking congregation, which was formed out of a deliverance ministry, is a vital part of the community of faith here at Wesley Penang. We thank God for His faithfulness over the past 20 years. May the Lord continue to advance His kingdom through our Hokkien-Mandarin ministry.

On Sun Apr 26, Pr Andrew encouraged the congregation to grow in genuine maturity, in a message titled "Counterfeit Maturity" (James 1:22-27). Key points:
1) Christians often counterfeit maturity with knowledge or age.
2) Genuine Maturity is the ability to discern the good from the evil and to choose what is good.
3) To grow in maturity we need to have:-.. A teachable heart.. Consistent practice

What is the relationship between knowledge and spiritual maturity, and why are both essential in a believer’s life? How do we discern and choose what is good according to God, and why do we sometimes fail to live it out? In your own life, where do you need growth - attitude (a teachable heart) or action (consistent practice) - and how can you take steps toward maturity?

On Sun Apr 19, Pr Andrew encouraged the congregation to not settle for a counterfeit faith, in a message titled "The Dangers of Counterfeits" (2 Timothy 3:1-9). Key points:
1) Many Christians today fall prey to the devil's products in their lives.
2) Counterfeits give a false sense of security which leads to complacency.
3) Counterfeits can be identified through consequences or examination.
4) We settle for the fake because we are not willing to pay the price for the genuine.

What are your experiences with counterfeit products, and why do people sometimes choose them over the real thing? In the same way, what might “counterfeit” Christian practices look like in our lives? Do you tend to learn more through consequences or through self-examination? In what areas of your life might you be settling for less because you’re unwilling to pay the price for what is genuine or what God desires for you?

On the first Sunday after Easter (Apr 12), Bro Chik Bu shared a message titled "Peace That Sends Us" (Isaiah 6:1-8, John 20:19-21), encouraging the congregation to receive Christ’s peace in the midst of real life - and share it with others. Key points:
1) We don’t find peace by escaping life, but by encountering God in it.
2) We cannot have real peace while ignoring what’s broken in our lives.
3) The peace that Jesus gives is not self-generated - it is received in Christ.
4) Receive the peace of Christ - and be sent into a world still filled with fears.

Where do you need to become aware of God’s presence instead of escaping? Is there anything in your life right now you’ve been avoiding or suppressing instead of bringing honestly before God? What does it mean for you personally to receive peace instead of striving for it? What would it look like for you to be a carrier of Jesus’ peace to that person this week?

"Alleluia! Christ is risen! The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!"

This year, Wesley Methodist Church Penang celebrated Easter Sunday (Apr 5) with a combined service that brought together its Liturgical, Celebrative, and Hokkien-Mandarin (HMM) congregations. The unified gathering reflected a spirit of togetherness as more than 350 members and visitors worshipped as one church family.

Pastor-in-charge Rev Andrew Lim delivered the Easter message based on Luke 24:28-35, drawing from the Emmaus account to remind the congregation of Christ’s constant presence with His people. A combined worship team from the 11am and HMM ministries led the congregation in joyful praise and thanksgiving, while the Wesley Choir contributed with introit, anthems, and benediction, enriching the service with meaningful worship.

The celebration concluded with a simple fellowship lunch, where congregants from all ages and generations gathered in community, marking the occasion with warmth, connection, and the shared joy of the Resurrection.

On Palm Sunday March 29, Pr Andrew encouraged the congregation to follow Jesus on His terms in a message titled "From Acceptance to Rejection" (John 12:12-18). Key points:
1) The people accepted Jesus as King only to reject Him 5 days later... They desired blessings but denied sacrifice... They require healing but rejected change... They seek their version of God rather than God’s vision for them.
2) True worship is accepting Christ in His terms and conforming to His Will.

What does it truly mean in my daily life to say "Jesus is King", and what evidence shows that He has real authority over my choices, habits, and attitudes? Am I following Jesus for who He is, or for what I hope to gain - and have I shaped my understanding of Him around my own preferences or expectations? If following Jesus becomes difficult or costly, how would I respond, especially when He doesn't meet my expectations or leads me in ways I didn't anticipate?

On Sun Mar 22, Bro Amos Lim encouraged the congregation to do their part to build up one another in a message titled "Are You Doing Your Part?" (Ephesians 4:16). Key points:
1) Christ Is the Source (the Head): Jesus is the true source of life, strength, and direction for His people.
2) We Are Connected Together (the Body): The church is not a collection of individuals working alone, but a connected body.
3) Every Part Has a Purpose: God has given each person unique gifts and responsibilities to contribute meaningfully.
4) Growth Happens Together: Growth is both personal and corporate - the church thrives when every member actively participates.

Do I see myself as an essential part of the body of Christ, or do I feel distant and disconnected? In what ways am I intentionally staying spiritually connected to Christ, the Head? What changes do I notice in my life when I begin to drift from that connection? Am I faithfully using the gifts God has given me, or am I leaving them unused?
