Cross & Crown Penang is a Protestant Reformed Evangelical Church founded in 2019. God’s desire, and therefore the Church’s vision, is for the people of Penang and beyond to have, and to keep having, Jesus as Saviour and Lord. The Church seeks to work toward this vision through six key values:

This week, Cross & Crown welcomed some old friends and new visitors. At the same time, some of our regulars remain in KL following the joyful wedding celebration of members of our congregation. Our service concluded with several group discussions reflecting on the sermon on church planting and outreach, keeping in mind an upcoming Tuesday prayer meeting where we can thank God for his providence in our lives and rely on his faithfulness to provide for his people’s needs.

One of the greatest dangers for any church is drifting from mission to maintenance, becoming inward-looking instead of outward-looking. Yet from the earliest days of the church, healthy churches sent people to plant new churches so that more people could hear the gospel. Join us as we explore why church planting remains central to Christ’s mission and how we can play our part in seeing the gospel proclaimed in Penang and beyond.

世界的光 (Light of the World) - 约翰福音 John 8:12-30

当我们走进熟悉却没有开灯的房间时，常以为自己知道方向，最后却发现事实不一定如此。我们的属灵生命也是如此，我们可能自以为有信仰，却未必真正认识救赎罪人的生命源头耶稣基督。在约翰福音8章12-30节这里，耶稣宣告说：“我就是世界的光”。祂不只是给人们一些迷茫时的指引，而是上帝赐给世界的生命真光。这个主日，十架冠冕教会诚挚邀请你和我们一起透过《世界的光》这篇讲道，意识到唯有透过耶稣，我们才能真正认识上帝、看见自己需要被拯救的罪，并在十字架的救恩中看见基督的福音，从而信靠祂，得着生命。

When we walk into a familiar room without turning on the lights, we may assume that we know where we are going—only to discover that things are not always as we expected. Our spiritual lives can be much the same. We may think that we have faith, yet not truly know Jesus Christ, the source of life and the Savior of sinners. In John 8:12–30, Jesus declares: “I am the light of the world”. Jesus is not merely someone who offers guidance when we feel lost or confused. He is the true and living Light whom God has given to the world—the One who brings life, reveals the Father, exposes the reality of our sin, and leads us into salvation. This Sunday, Cross and Crown Church warmly invites you to join us as we explore the sermon, “Light of the World” through God’s Word. We will consider how Jesus alone enables us to truly know God, recognize our need for salvation, and see the gospel of Christ revealed through His saving work on the cross.

Over the past week, we were thankful to gather as a church family in a number of ways. We had the joy of hosting a watch party for the KVBC Bible Conference, where we sang together and sat under faithful, expository preaching through the book of Jeremiah by Gary Millar. On Sunday, we also welcomed back our associate pastor, Pastor Alex, from his sabbatical - giving thanks that he has returned rested and encouraged to continue serving alongside us. After the service, our Chinese congregation also began hosting Christianity Explored, a course designed to help people explore the claims of Jesus through the Gospel of Mark. As we shared in the Lord's Supper this week and gathered together across our English and Chinese congregations, we were reminded once again of God's sustaining grace and faithfulness to His people.

But as Jesus sends us as ambassadors to proclaim his gospel, join us as we consider God's heart for the lost and be equipped with zeal to love the lost through evangelism.

这是基督吗？(Can This Be the Christ?) - John 约翰福音 7:25-52

每个人心中都有不同版本的耶稣。约翰福音7章25-52节记载了众人对耶稣激烈的争论：有人称祂是先知，有人认为祂是基督，也有人拒绝相信祂。究竟哪一个才是真正的耶稣呢？面对众人的疑惑，在住棚节的最后一天，耶稣公开宣告：“人若渴了，到我这里来喝”。这个宣告同样也带出了两极的回应，有人信靠跟随祂，也有宗教领袖熟读律法却仍拒绝祂。这个主日，十架冠冕教会诚挚邀请你和我们一起透过约翰福音7章25-52节的经文，看见耶稣真实的身份、道成肉身的救赎目的，以及圣灵如何引导我们信靠基督、得着真正永恒的生命。

Everyone has their own version of Jesus. In John 7:25–52, we see the crowds deeply divided over His identity. Some declared that He was the Prophet, others believed He was the Christ, while many rejected Him altogether. Which of these is the true Jesus? Amid the confusion and controversy, during the Feast of Tabernacles, Jesus made His remarkable public invitation: “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink”. His declaration brought about two very different responses. Some believed in Him and follow Him, while the religious leaders, though well versed in the Scriptures, still continued to reject Him. This Sunday, Cross and Crown Church warmly invites you to join us as we study John 7:2552 together. Through this passage, we will discover Jesus’ true identity, the redemptive purpose of His incarnation, and how the Holy Spirit leads us to trust in Christ and receive the gift of eternal life.
