Acceptance of Postulant Simon Tan

Pax et Bonum. 26 February 2026- Our Custody was filled with quiet joy and gratitude as we welcomed Simon Tan, 36, from Sungai Bakap, Penang, into the Postulancy during the Holy Mass celebrated by Friar Gilbert James OFMCap, our Custos. This celebration was especially meaningful for us, as the last acceptance of a postulant took place in 2022. For some time, we have been praying and patiently waiting for new vocations to our Capuchin Franciscan life. This year, the Lord has graciously blessed us with one who courageously responded to His call.

During the rite, Simon received the Holy Bible and the Tau Cross — simple yet powerful symbols of our way of life. Rooted in the Gospel and inspired by the spirit of St Francis, our vocation is one of prayer, penance, fraternity, simplicity, and joy. The Tau he now wears is a constant reminder of daily conversion of heart and faithful love for Christ.

At the conclusion of the rite, the Custos entrusted Simon to the Postulant Director, Friar Tony Bingkuan OFMCap. Also present were Friar Ravi Alexander OFMCap the Guardian, Friar David Reegan OFMCap, and our Aspirant, whose presence reflects the hopeful growth of vocations among us.

Simon will begin his one-year initial formation at Gethsemani Friary, Cheras. May this year be a grace-filled time of listening, learning, and deepening in the Capuchin spirit.

The evening concluded with a simple fraternal meal, where gratitude and hope were shared around the table — a beautiful beginning to a new chapter in the journey of our Custody. Deo Gratias.

Please keep Simon in your prayers. 🙏
