Sri Kaliamman Sangilikaruppar Temple at Kampung Paya, Butterworth Penang is a Saivite-style temple founded in 60's and officially registered with the Malaysian government's registrar on 26 November 1971. Located at Kampung Paya Butterworth, Sri Kaliamman Sangilikaruppar temple is the oldest temple in Penang dedicated to Lord Sri Sangilikaruppar Swamy and Ambal Sri Kaliamman. Ever since the forma
tion of the temple, visitors coming in from as far as Indonesia, Dubai, US seeking the blessings of both Ayya & Amma. The temple was registered with the Malaysian government’s registrar of society back in 1971 (Regd: 869) where it legally & officially recognized the temple and the management body. The temple consists of 32 active working members which includes 12 legally voted and elected committee & management team. Since the temple does not have a stable source of income, the day to day events are run via donations given by public, visitors and well wishers. The most important event at this temple is the annual Thiruvilla (also known as Chitirai Thiruvilla) where devotees all over Malaysia flock over to the temple and bear vows to Lord Sanggilikarupparswamy. The second most important event at the temple is the 9 days Navarathri Obayam, dedicated for ambal Sri Kaliamman. Other yearly events like ‘Adi Pathinettampadi’, ‘Thaiponggal’, ‘Monthly Ammavasai’, ‘Vinayagar Chaturthi’ to name few also devotedly held at this temple.
