Batu Caves is one of the must-visit attractions just outside Kuala Lumpur, especially if you’re exploring the city for the first time.

Getting there is easy. You can take the train directly, or grab a ride from the city center. It takes about 20–30 minutes, making it a quick and convenient trip.

The colorful staircase has 272 steps. Once you reach the top, you’ll enter the main cave, a sacred Hindu site where you can see devotees walking barefoot. The cave itself is breathtaking, with natural light shining through and creating a beautiful atmosphere. Even if you’re not religious, it’s definitely worth visiting, and it stays relatively cool inside.

As you explore, you’ll also spot plenty of monkeys along the way, adding to the lively experience. Just keep your belongings close and enjoy the surroundings.

Since it’s a religious site, there’s a dress code. Visitors are required to dress modestly, but you can easily get a sarong at the entrance if needed.

You can explore the whole area in about an hour. Near the entrance, there’s an Indian café on the second floor with strong air-conditioning, a comfortable setting, and good coffee. They also serve meals and Indian snacks.

Overall, it’s a great place to visit. It’s close to the city, easy to access, and offers a unique cultural and natural experience. Going after breakfast is a great idea for a more relaxed visit.

Thaipusam at Batu Caves – 10 hours and still not home‼️
Heavy jam everywhere. People jammed. Cars jammed. Crowded. Pushing.

Huge respect to everyone who came to pray. Some devotees carry at least 20kg, and some even 50kg or 75kg. Truly impressive 👍

As it gets later, you’ll see people sleeping anywhere they can. Families came together, some even carrying babies while fulfilling their vows. That’s really not easy 👍

An amazing experience overall. Managed to complete the climb up all 275 steps [赞R]. As a Malaysian, this is something you should experience at least once. It’s home to one of the tallest statues in the world.

Tips:
⭕ Take public transport
❌ Do not drive
⭕ Bring a fan
⭕ Go at night, it’s not as hot
⭕ Prices are reasonable
⭕ Many stalls selling clothes, food, accessories, and religious items
🚾 Toilet RM1, clean and plenty available
