The Gospel of Matthew presents Jesus’ teachings through five discourses; in chapter 5, it recounts what we know as the “Sermon on the Mount,” a long list of the Master’s instructions.

It begins with the Beatitudes and proceeds through several key lessons for understanding the message of the Kingdom of Heaven that he inaugurates—words and deeds of mercy, justice, peace, and solidarity, as exemplified by Jesus.

As the Gospel of Matthew recounts, Jesus’s first listeners were people living on the margins of society: the poor, the sick, and slaves. That is why he preached on the roads and outside the cities.

To preach the Kingdom of Heaven was to invite them into a realm of justice, where God reigned, with acceptance, inclusion, and a commitment to helping one another. Matthew himself tells us in chapter 25:37–40:

That is why he tells them that they are the light that must shine upon all human beings; they are an alternative way of life to unjust governments and exclusionary religious authorities. As Christians, the daughters and sons of the kingdom, we are in the world, living alongside all human beings, and Jesus asks us to be the light that shines upon them.

To be a light among those who suffer the consequences of unjust governments and exclusionary religions; to be a light through acts of solidarity and an understanding of the kingdom—of love, justice, and mercy—that show them there is an alternative way of life amid so much violence.

El Evangelio de Mateo presenta a través de cinco discursos las enseñanzas de Jesús, en el capítulo 5 nos narra lo que conocemos como el “Sermón del Monte”, una larga lista de instrucciones del Maestro.

Inicia con las bienaventuranzas y avanza en varias lecciones claves para entender el mensaje del reino de los cielos que él inaugura, que son palabras y acciones de misericordia, justicia, paz y ayuda solidaria Jesús.

Los primeros escuchas de Jesús como lo narra el evangelio de Mateo fueron las personas que vivieron en los márgenes. Pobres, enfermos, esclavos. Por eso predicaba en los caminos, y fuera de las ciudades.

Predicar el reino de los cielos, era invitarlos a un espacio de justicia, dónde gobernaba Dios, con aceptación, inclusión, y el compromiso de ayudarse los unos a los otros. El mismo Mateo nos dice en el capítulo 25:37-40

Por eso los dice que son la luz que debe alumbrar a todos los seres humanos, son una alternativa de vida a los gobiernos injustos y las autoridades religiosas que excluyen. Como cristianos, las hijas y los hijos del reino estamos en el mundo, conviven con todos los seres humanos y Jesús nos pide que seamos la luz que les alumbre.

Ser luz en medio de los que padecen las consecuencias de gobiernos injustos y religiones excluyentes, ser luz con acciones de solidaridad y entendimiento del reino, de amor de justicia y de misericordia, que les muestren que hay una alternativa de vida, en medio de tanta violencia.

This text redefines God’s mission by shifting from a local focus (Israel) to a universal one: God’s Spirit will be poured out on all humanity so that everyone, without distinction, may proclaim His message and be saved.

1. “I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh”
• Breaks down barriers: The Spirit is given to “all flesh.” It eliminates distinctions of gender (sons and daughters), age (the elderly and the young), and social status.
• Everyone is sent: Prophecy—communicating God’s message—is no longer reserved for a select group. The entire community is equipped for the mission.
• Fulfillment: This is the verse that the apostle Peter quotes in Acts 2:17 to explain the birth of the missionary church at Pentecost.
The Holy Spirit is poured out on all the saved for the purpose of empowering them to go and bring the good news—the message of salvation—and to proclaim that our Redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ, will soon come.

2. Women’s Participation in the Evangelization of the Early Church
Women’s participation was fundamental and revolutionary for the expansion of the early Church. Their inclusion directly fulfilled the prophecy of Joel 2:28, breaking down the strict cultural and gender barriers of the time:
• Leaders of house churches: Early churches met in homes. Courageous women opened their homes to shepherd and welcome communities, such as Lydia of Thyatira (Acts 16), Priscilla (along with her husband Aquila), and Nympha (Colossians 4:15).
• Evangelists and teachers: Women like Priscilla accurately taught the way of God to great orators such as Apollos (Acts 18:26). Likewise, Philip’s four daughters were formally recognized as prophetesses (Acts 21:9).
• Apostles and deaconesses: The apostle Paul mentions Junia (Romans 16:7), describing her as “outstanding among the apostles,” and highlights Phoebe as a deaconess and key servant of the church (Romans 16:1).
• Financial and Logistical Support: Many women used their own resources to finance the apostles’ missionary journeys, a practice they had already been carrying out since Jesus’ earthly ministry (Luke 8:1–3).

3. The Common Priesthood of the Faithful
The task of spreading the gospel is no longer the exclusive domain of religious leaders (pastors, priests, bishops). Every Christian becomes a missionary in their daily life.
• A nation of priests: The apostle Peter defines the universal Church as a “royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession” (1 Peter 2:9).
• The mission of the common priesthood: That same verse points out the purpose of this priesthood: “so that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” Evangelization is the duty of the entire people.
• Diversity of ministries: The Holy Spirit distributes gifts to every member—whether man or woman, young or old—to build up the Church and expand the mission, validating the contribution of the laity in teaching, social service, and proclamation.

4. The Shared Responsibility of All the Baptized in the Mission
• Collective Action of the Spirit: In accordance with Joel 2:28, the Holy Spirit is not fragmented; He is poured out upon the entire community, granting each individual an active role in the global mission.
• Evangelization in Daily Life: The saved and baptized person reaches places where the Church’s formal structures have no access: factories, universities, offices, neighborhoods, and digital environments. Daily witness is the front line of the mission.
• Complementarity of Gifts: The mission is not limited to preaching from a pulpit. It involves administration, social justice, caring for the sick, teaching, and the arts. Every baptized person puts their profession and talents at the service of the Gospel.
• Decision-making and governance: This means that the saved cease to be mere passive recipients or “helpers” of the church and become key actors who plan, execute, and evaluate their communities’ missionary projects.
• Mutual Support: Co-responsibility is also global; it is manifested when one local community supports another through prayer, the sending of resources, or the exchange of missionaries.
A Call to Reflection:
Beloved brother and friend who has read this reflection: whether you are young or old, you and I have God’s Holy Spirit. We have that power poured out into our lives. Do not hold back when speaking of the wonderful love of our Lord Jesus, so that others may also be saved like you and me and may enjoy all the benefits of being children of God.
May the blessing of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit be with you and your family.

Este texto redefine la misión de Dios al pasar de un enfoque local (Israel) a uno universal: el Espíritu de Dios se derramará sobre toda la humanidad para que todos, sin distinción, anuncien su mensaje y sean salvos.

1. “Derramaré mi Espíritu sobre toda carne”
• Rompe barreras: El Espíritu se da a «toda carne». Elimina distinciones de género (hijos e hijas), edad (ancianos y jóvenes) y posición social.
• Todos son enviados: La profecía —comunicar el mensaje de Dios— ya no es para un grupo selecto. Toda la comunidad queda equipada para la misión.
• Cumplimiento: Este versículo es el que cita el apóstol Pedro en Hechos 2:17 para explicar el nacimiento de la iglesia misionera en Pentecostés.
El Espíritu Santo es derramado sobre todos los salvos con el propósito de llenarlos de poder para ir y llevar las buenas nuevas, el mensaje de salvación, y anunciar que pronto vendrá nuestro Redentor, el Señor Jesucristo.

2. La participación de las mujeres en la evangelización de la Iglesia primitiva
La participación de las mujeres fue fundamental y revolucionaria para la expansión de la Iglesia primitiva. Su inclusión cumplió directamente la profecía de Joel 2:28, rompiendo las estrictas barreras culturales y de género de la época:
• Líderes de iglesias en casas: Las iglesias primitivas se reunían en hogares. Mujeres valientes abrieron sus casas para pastorear y recibir comunidades, como Lidia de Tiatira (Hechos 16), Priscila (junto a su esposo Aquila) y Ninfas (Colosenses 4:15).
• Evangelizadoras y maestras: Mujeres como Priscila enseñaron con exactitud el camino de Dios a grandes oradores como Apolo (Hechos 18:26). Asimismo, las cuatro hijas de Felipe eran reconocidas formalmente como profetisas (Hechos 21:9).
• Apóstoles y diaconisas: El apóstol Pablo menciona a Junia (Romanos 16:7), calificándola como «insigne entre los apóstoles» y destaca a Febe como diaconisa y servidora clave de la iglesia (Romanos 16:1).
• Sostén financiero y logístico: Muchas mujeres de sus recursos financiaron los viajes misioneros de los apóstoles, una práctica que ya realizaban desde el ministerio terrenal de Jesús (Lucas 8:1-3).

3. El sacerdocio común de los fieles
La tarea de llevar el evangelio deja de ser exclusiva de los líderes religiosos (pastores, sacerdotes, obispos). Cada cristiano se convierte en un misionero en su entorno cotidiano.
• Una nación de sacerdotes: El apóstol Pedro define a la Iglesia universal como un «real sacerdocio, nación santa, pueblo adquirido por Dios» (1 Pedro 2:9).
• La misión del sacerdote común: Ese mismo versículo señala el objetivo de este sacerdocio: «para que anunciéis las virtudes de aquel que os llamó de las tinieblas a su luz admirable». La evangelización es el deber de todo el pueblo.
• Diversidad de ministerios: El Espíritu Santo distribuye dones a cada miembro sea hombre o mujer, joven o anciano para edificar la Iglesia y expandir la misión, validando la contribución de los laicos en la enseñanza, la ayuda social y la proclamación.

4. La corresponsabilidad de todos los bautizados en la misión
• Acción colectiva del Espíritu: En sintonía con Joel 2:28, el Espíritu Santo no se fragmenta; se derrama sobre toda la comunidad, otorgando a cada individuo una parte activa en la misión global.
• Evangelización en la vida cotidiana: El salvo y bautizado llega a lugares donde las estructuras formales de la Iglesia no tienen acceso: fábricas, universidades, oficinas, barrios y entornos digitales. El testimonio diario es la primera línea de la misión.
• Complementariedad de dones: La misión no se limita a predicar desde un púlpito. Implica la administración, la justicia social, el cuidado de los enfermos, la enseñanza y el arte. Cada bautizado pone su profesión y talentos al servicio del Evangelio.
• Toma de decisiones y gobernanza: Implica que los salvos dejen de ser meros receptores pasivos o «ayudantes» de la iglesia, para convertirse en actores clave que planifican, ejecutan y evalúan los proyectos misioneros de sus comunidades.
• Sostén mutuo: La corresponsabilidad también es global; se manifiesta cuando una comunidad local apoya a otra mediante la oración, el envío de recursos o el intercambio de misioneros.
Llamado a la reflexión:
Amado hermano y amigo que leíste esta reflexión: no importa si eres joven o anciano, tú y yo tenemos al Espíritu Santo de Dios. Tenemos ese poder derramado en nuestras vidas. No te límites al hablar del maravilloso amor de nuestro Señor Jesús, para que otros también sean salvos como tú y yo, y puedan g***r de todos los beneficios de ser hijos de Dios.
Que la bendición del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo estén contigo y tu familia.
