What happens when we move beyond “church attendance” into truly shared life?

Deep community is beautiful — but it is also risky. It requires vulnerability, patience, forgiveness, and the willingness to be changed by one another.

In our latest NCN reflection, we explore why the challenges of intentional Christian community may also be the very places where we encounter the transforming love of Christ.

One unexpected conversation on a Rotterdam sidewalk became a window into something much bigger.

When Jodi Winger met an older woman from Turkey carrying a bag of strawberries, she didn't know that a short walk together would capture years of longing to follow Jesus more faithfully.

After moving with her family to an intentional Christian community in the Netherlands, Jodi has discovered that the deepest work of discipleship rarely happens alone. It happens around tables, through shared prayer, courageous hospitality, and the daily choice to become known.

"Take the risk of deep community and find Me there."

Her beautiful reflection reminds us that while community is often messy and costly, it may also be one of God's primary gifts for shaping us into the likeness of Christ.

What stories never made the headlines?

In 2020, the world watched Minneapolis through images of fire, unrest, and division. But there were other stories unfolding—stories of churches opening their doors, neighbors becoming family, and hope taking root in unexpected places.

In our latest NCN Substack, Carolyn Rhoads reflects on her time in Minneapolis and introduces us to Pastor Ricky Campbell and Mosaic Christian Community Church, where ordinary Christian hospitality grew into a tiny-home community for people emerging from chronic homelessness.

It's a moving reminder that God's kingdom often advances quietly, one relationship, one shared meal, and one act of welcome at a time.

We hope this story encourages you to look for, and become part of, the quieter stories God is writing in your own community.

Can a thriving Christian community begin without years of careful planning?

Most stories of intentional community begin with a vision, a plan, and years of preparation. But sometimes God has other ideas.

Enoch Elwell shares the surprising story of how a family dream, a treehouse project, and a series of unexpected events became Blowing Springs Commons—a flourishing micro-village just outside Chattanooga.

Along the way, he reflects on a lesson many of us need to hear: healthy community grows not from perfect structures, but from practicing the love of Christ together, one day at a time.

If you're part of an intentional community, hoping to start one, or simply longing for deeper shared life, I think you'll find encouragement in Enoch's story.

How do we continue encouraging one another when we're scattered across the world?

One of the gifts of Nurturing Communities Network is discovering that the body of Christ is alive and serving in places we may never visit.

This week we're sharing an update from NCN friends John and Elizabeth Klugh, who are serving children and families in Gombe, Nigeria. Their story reminds us that we remain connected through prayer, friendship, and shared hope—even across thousands of miles.

We also take a moment to remember Chris Kimmel, whose life and joyful spirit continue to be cherished by many in our community.

We hope this story encourages you today.
