Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as a reward. You are serving the Lord Christ ”, Colossians 3: 23-24.
Paul's words in these verses are so practical that we can overlook their radical nature. Serving Christ isn't just about obvious spiritual matters. No corner of our life is void of opportunities to serve Him, no matter how insignificant or seemingly inconsequential the task He sets before us.
In fact, aside from your decision to believe in Jesus Christ, the choice to serve him will be more formative in your spiritual life than any other decision.
Consider the way we are going to work. The word "from the heart" does not mean frantically. It refers to an all-inclusive attitude. It also anticipates the joy we can experience when we discover that God has truly connected and gifted us for certain tasks that we can wholeheartedly do for Him.
And a commitment to wholehearted service requires you to be in the Word of God. You cannot afford to wander for days or weeks. The time in the scriptures is like a summary of the activities of the day in the place where the Lord has called you.
Serving Christ also ties your heart to the Cross. People are counting on you to be a faithful servant, whether they realize it or not. You have an overwhelming privilege to work in the kingdom of Christ. If you open your heart to this, you will begin to see an incredible variety of service opportunities in front of you each day.
As you begin to take service steps, you will quickly discover that it is not a lighthearted and carefree parade. There will be times of intense joy, deep camaraderie, and great fun, but also times when fatigue and discouragement are part of the experience. Humiliating yourself and serving is difficult, and it's easy to want to throw in the towel when things don't go as planned.
Colossians 3:24 is key: "You are serving the Lord Christ." Especially when we get discouraged, we can rest in the truth that our lives and what we do is not about us, it is about serving the Lord.
Now some will consider this option for serving, but will do nothing. They will feel the pull of possibility, the longing that could lead to great things, but they will think: Not to me, that sounds too much like work. What a tragic loss of opportunity. Do not be like that.
Do you want a life led by the Lord, animated by His blessings, and marked by a sense of purpose? Choose to serve. If you ask someone fully committed to ministry about their story, you will find this connection to be true: “If you want to be great,” Jesus said, “you must be everyone's servant” (Matthew 20:26). The life you were designed for begins with the decision that only you can make: I choose to serve Jesus Christ.
Las palabras de Pablo en estos versículos son tan prácticas que podemos pasar por alto su naturaleza radical. Servir a Cristo no se trata solo de asuntos espirituales obvios. No hay rincón de nuestra vida que esté vacío de oportunidades para servirle, no importa cuán insignificante o aparentemente intrascendente sea la tarea que Él nos ponga ante nosotros.
De hecho, aparte de su decisión de creer en Jesucristo, la opción de servirle será más formativa en su vida espiritual que cualquier otra decisión.
Considere la forma en que vamos a trabajar. La palabra “de corazón” no significa frenéticamente. Se refiere a una actitud de todo incluido. También anticipa el gozo que podemos experimentar cuando descubrimos que Dios realmente nos ha conectado y dotado para ciertas tareas que podemos hacer de todo corazón por Él.
Y el compromiso de servir de todo corazón requiere que estés en la Palabra de Dios. No puede permitirse el lujo de deambular durante días o semanas. El tiempo en las Escrituras es como un resumen de las actividades del día en el lugar donde el Señor lo ha llamado.
Servir a Cristo también ata tu corazón a la Cruz. La gente cuenta con usted para ser un servidor fiel, ya sea que se den cuenta o no. Tiene un privilegio sobrecogedor de trabajar en el reino de Cristo. Si abre su corazón a esto, comenzará a ver una increíble variedad de oportunidades de servicio frente a usted cada día.
A medida que comience a tomar medidas de servicio, rápidamente descubrirá que no es un desfile alegre y despreocupado. Habrá momentos de intensa alegría, profunda camaradería y gran diversión, pero también momentos en los que la fatiga y el desánimo son parte de la experiencia. Humillarse y servir es difícil, y es fácil querer tirar la toalla cuando las cosas no salen según lo planeado.
Colosenses 3:24 es clave: "Ustedes están sirviendo al Señor Cristo". Especialmente cuando nos desanimamos, podemos descansar en la verdad de que nuestras vidas y lo que hacemos no se trata de nosotros, se trata de servir al Señor.
Ahora, algunos considerarán esta opción para servir, pero no harán nada. Sentirán el tirón de la posibilidad, el anhelo que podría conducir a grandes cosas, pero pensarán: No para mí, eso suena demasiado a trabajo. Qué trágica pérdida de oportunidades. No seas así.
¿Quiere una vida guiada por el Señor, animada por Sus bendiciones y marcada por un sentido de propósito? Elija servir. Si le pregunta a alguien completamente comprometido en el ministerio por su historia, encontrará que esta conexión es verdadera: “Si quieres ser grande”, dijo Jesús, “debes ser el siervo de todos” (Mateo 20:26). La vida para la que fuiste diseñado comienza con la decisión que solo tú puedes tomar: elijo servir a Jesucristo.
