Project Berea - Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

Project Berea - Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) A mission partnership between the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Instituto Bíblico Berea of Los Cristales, N.L., Mexico.

Started in 2005, Project Berea and the IBB have worked together form a church/food mission. CYF youth groups, adult groups and students from Culver-Stockton College have worked to build the facilities from the ground up. In addition to construction, groups offer food packages and community meals on the church campus. Grants have regularly and generously offered through the Week Of Compassion.

Looking at old photos. Remembering former missionary youth, Culver-Stockton students/leaders, and adults who have sacrificed to join my dreams here. Look to the Project Berea page for new photos and an opportunity for those who have gone before. A two fold blessing for all of you! Mike

An update from Project Berea partner, the Berea Bible Instute:

Greetings for Berea!

This semester we have worked very hard for the Glory of God and want the share the good news we have from our ministry with you. Our students and staff have been very busy preaching, teaching and making disciples for Jesus Christ.

We want to have community impact meanwhile our students learn how to be true followers of our Lord.

This semester we have been focusing in missions, academy and social evangelism. In a country like ours, church is more than a place to visit every week, church is essential to regenerate our society. As you may already know, the drug war started by Mexican authorities last decade, has hurt millions of people. This is why we think that more than ever for this generation, love of God is necessary.

This is a brief summary of our activities. You will find the work of a very committed ministry that has faith compassion for people and that is ready to spread the love of God to those who need it the most.

Missions:
Our students and staff were very busy this semester. Our students visited over twenty missions and Churches on Monterrey metropolitan area, and also five missions on rural communities.

Our mission program is based on the command of Jesus when He ask the disciples to go and preach to all creatures. Students not only preach, but also help with all activates related with ministry: since child evangelism or evangelism door to door, to building and cleaning tasks.

This pasts months we encourage our students to be sensible to the situation of Mexican society. We are certain that the love of Christ can be not only a shelter for our people, but also a real opportunity to change and to make Mexican society a better one.

Also, we have been sending teams to rural communities ever month. This teams stay the whole weekend in the missions, once there, they establish children evangelism, worship session, teaching and preaching services and food campaigns.

Hospital:
One of our new mission program is focused in visiting hospitals. We are very concern about the situation in Mexican public hospitals. We focused not in the patients but in the people waiting for their patients. Monterrey hospitals offer service to four states of northern Mexico. Mostly to rural communities. Many people end up waiting in the heat, or in the rain for their patients. They usually don’t have extra money for food or water, and they don´t now anyone in the city. Our students and staff team up together in order to be helpful and offer some food, water, blankets and prayers to people in need by the public hospitals.

This year we have helped over 700 people. Our plan is to do as much as we can in order to help more people during the rest of the year.

We want to thank all of the people that male this program possible. For us is very important that our students learn how to structure a sermon, but also, we want them to lean how to have an impact in our community.

Academy:
This semester we invited some guest professors to teach our students new ideas about missions. During one month our students were concentrated on learning new teachings for mission and evangelize. We want out students to be ready to face the new challenges of Mexican society. Our program contemplates that our students learn from experienced teachers and ministers that are working already for the love God.

Also, we had out Youth Congress in which we invite young people form all over Monterrey area to come and have a good time with our students learning about the Lord. We really like this Youth Congress, it´s our way to express how much we care about them and how much Jesus Loves them.

Also, we started the construction and re opening of the dinning hall. The building was in not a very good shape. We re build the roof and now its ready to receive our students and guest. It was a lot of work, but we do it in the name of the Lord.

You are part of this effort. Be certain that Berea is working every day for the kingdom of God. Your help and support is so precious to us. May the Lord be with you. Thank you very much for all you do for our ministry.

Today one of my great inspirations in the Project Berea mission died after a long battle with Alzheimer's. No one appreciated one of our trips more. She told me it was literally a life-long dream she thought she had missed. As an idividual, I am better and more devoted by her example. Also, she was better for the example of our youth and those we met along the way.

I want to thank everyone who contributed and thank those who may be a short on money right now but are continuing to pray for project Berea and the Bible school in Berea Monterrey. With everyone's help we have raised over $1000 to share to help them at the school. Also we received a unexpected $500 donation specifically to Project Berea. Others can still donate to Project Berea or the school, just let me know!

Some needs have come up for some basic bills and such at Los Cristales. As most of you know, we have a checking account set up through David Rodriguez in McAllen, TX. I need to check on some details, but I will match up to $500 of other donations. Send me a message via FB or my e-mail at [email protected] and I will give details on how to send money...NOT TO ME, but to the account through David. If we raise a million, I can still only do $500. I am hoping enough of you who have been in the past will give whatever amount you can afford, regardless how small...mainly because you understand the need and have the trust factor. I hope to go back before July and share more updated photos and the status for restarting group trips. Thanks...hope everyone is well!

Hola desde el IBB en Los Cristlas!! Yes, I am saying hello from the Bible school in Mexico! Here to do an assessment for future Project Berea trips. Glad to be here and if safety allows, begin planning trips 12-18 months down the road. Samuel has been a gracious host, of course, and tomorrow I will post photos and an update on conditions here and our ministry sites. Please be praying for the families working at the school, the students here, the people at Los Villareales, the Ant Hill and Mexico in general. I would not mind a few my way either for my time here.
