For my Musical Friends plus anyone who can put up with me:
*God called me to work with The Salvation Army Children’s Home in Mazatlán Mexico after being informed
of their need of a band director.
*Thought about quitting after the first practice!
What is this note’s name? “Doe”! No, this is a “C”. She’s looking puzzled.
And this note please? “Rey”! No, it’s a “D”. Nope, didn’t get any better after “E/Mi”. Growing pains on both sides.
Their Valve Trombones were in keys of Bb OR C! Trombones play in Treble Clef down here!
Most all their instruments were Chinese made and pure crap. No repair shops anywhere around.
One year later in Mexico City with our group, God literally told me: “Do you remember, Doe, Rey, Mi?”
“Well, you’re going to perform the Sound Of Music.” My response was: ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Nope, get to work.
That trumpet player I argued with before, actually looks like one of the daughters in the movie. She turned into an
inspiration in writing the music. We performed the entire musical several times. I have never been prouder of any group.
My Wife Jeanette fell in love with this place two years ago, and is the real brains and coordination of just about everything!
The music program is part of the development here, but the Home has an incredible Dance Program, Bible Studies, Tutoring,
Cooking, Sowing & Embroidering classes, etc. Bottom line, the children/students are happy and safe.
I’m saying all of this for two reasons.
1: This Sunday was “Orphan Sunday”. The Salvation Army Mazatlán Children’s Home doesn’t necessarily need more instruments,
but the Home does need funds for basic utilities. Orphanages and Churches here pay commercial rates.
2: PLUS, after checking out our website “EDSMZT.com”, and if interested, come down for a visit. You will fall in love.
Again, our Website: EDSMZT.com, this also includes our GoFundMe

Hopefully none of this is offensive to anyone. My gift has never been fund raising. But we do our best to help out the home.
A great trumpet player and friend asked me, “Dude, how do you get a gig like that?” My friend, It’s totally gratis. But worth every penny!
