Somos una Asociación Civil sin fines de lucro que trabaja promoviendo el desarrollo integral de niños, niñas, adolescentes y familias en situación de vulnerabilidad. Over time, the ministries of the Mission of Friendship have evolved in response to the needs of the people it serves. Short descriptions of each of the current programs follow:
The Amigos family sponsorship program facilitates the p
artnership of eighty Yucatecan families with eighty families in the U.S. These families correspond with one another and often develop personal relationships over time. Yucatecan families receive financial assistance in the form of monthly help which may include school supplies, food staples, clothing or household goods. Intercultural exchange and the and support for the education of the children in the sponsored families are two of the principle objectives of this program.. The Amiguitos day care center provides quality care, and an educational foundation for infants to three-year-olds in a safe, stimulating, loving environment while their mothers work to help support their families. The mission's medical dispensary in the south of Merida provides low-cost consultations, medical care and medicines to low-income people. The Sister Parish program facilitates personal connections between parishes in Yucatan and parish in the Diocese of Erie that lead to understanding between cultures, a sense of unity in Christ and growth in faith. It also provides a channel for financial assistance for Yucatecan parishes that aids in the their development. Estancia Nueva Vida offers supervision, academic support, nutritious meals and enrichment glasses to girls of primary school age in the south part of Merida from noon to 7 p.m. Several times per year visiting groups come from the United States to the mission for cultural exchange and to offer their service and friendship to the people of Yucatan.
