“Quien cuida la higuera comerá su fruto, y el que mira por los intereses de su señor, tendrá honra.” Proverbios 27:18.
El que vela por la higuera, recibe higos a cambio de sus preocupaciones, y el que mira por los intereses de un buen señor, recibe honor como recompensa. Verdaderamente el Señor Jesús es el mejor de todos los señores, y es un honor que se le permita a alguien hacer el más nimio acto por Su causa. Servir a ciertos señores es como velar por manzanos silvestres y comer manzanas amargas como salario; pero servir a mi Señor Jesús es cuidar una higuera que produce los más dulces higos. Su servicio es en sí mismo un deleite, la continuación de ese servicio es una promoción, y el éxito en ese servicio es la bendición aquí abajo, y la recompensa por ese servicio es la gloria arriba.
Nuestros más grandes honores serán recogidos en aquel tiempo cuando los higos estén maduros, en el mundo venidero. Los ángeles que son ahora nuestros servidores nos llevarán a casa cuando nuestro día de trabajo hubiere concluido. El cielo donde está Jesús, será nuestra honorable mansión, la eterna bienaventuranza será nuestra honorable porción, y el propio Señor será nuestro honorable compañero. ¿Quién podría imaginar el pleno significado de esta promesa: “el que mira por los intereses de su señor, tendrá honra”?
Señor, ayúdame a mirar por los intereses de mi Maestro. Haz que deje toda idea de honor para la hora cuando Tú mismo me honrarás. ¡Que Tu Santo Espíritu me convierta en un obrero y un servidor humilde y paciente!

“He who tends the fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who looks after the interests of his master will have honor.” Proverbs 27:18.
He who looks after the fig tree receives figs in exchange for his worries, and he who looks after the interests of a good lord receives honor as a reward. Truly the Lord Jesus is the best of all lords, and it is an honor that someone is allowed to do the smallest act for His sake. Serving certain lords is like watching over wild apple trees and eating bitter apples as wages; but to serve my Lord Jesus is to take care of a fig tree that produces the sweetest figs. His service is in itself a delight, the continuation of that service is a promotion, and success in that service is blessing here below, and the reward for that service is glory above.
Our greatest honors will be gathered at that time when the figs are ripe, in the world to come. The angels who are now our servants will take us home when our day's work is over. Heaven where Jesus is will be our honorable mansion, eternal bliss will be our honorable portion, and the Lord himself will be our honorable companion. Who could imagine the full meaning of this promise: “He who looks after his master's interests will have honor”?
Lord, help me to look out for the interests of my Master. Make me leave all ideas of honor for the hour when You Yourself will honor me. May Your Holy Spirit transform me into a humble and patient worker and servant!
