The 106th Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally has been installed at Canterbury Cathedral in a service that gathered Primates and Anglican representatives from all around the world.

Her inaugural sermon appealed for the global church to respond to the call of Christ: ‘Our world today needs the love, healing and hope that we find in Jesus Christ. I continue to pray that we renew our confidence in this good news, and recommit ourselves to sharing the joy of the Gospel.’

She called for: ‘A church for the whole nation and for the world, which looks for ways of joining with people of all faiths and none, in acts of service that will transform. A church which extends around the world, with our sister churches in the Anglican Communion, as part of the one holy, catholic and apostolic Church, to embody Christ’s love.’

Día de la anunciación.

This Wednesday, the Church celebrates The Annunciation, when Mary receives the news that she is to bear the Son of God.

In this moment, God’s promise takes flesh in the life of an ordinary young woman. Mary’s response is that of trust and openness to God’s call. The Annunciation reminds us that God’s work in the world often begins quietly, through willing hearts and courageous consent.

Bible reading: Luke 1:38
‘Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.”’

Prayer

Faithful God,
you invite us into your purposes with grace and love.
Give us the trust of Mary,
to receive your call with humility and courage.
When the way ahead is unclear,
help us to say yes to your will
and to place our lives in your care.

Amen.

As the office of the Archbishop of Canterbury's Representative to the Holy See, the Anglican Centre in Rome rejoices in the nomination of the Rt Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally as the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury — a focus of unity and one of the four 'Instruments of Communion' of the worldwide Anglican Communion, composed of the 42 autonomous churches in communion with the See of Canterbury. We offer Archbishop-Designate Sarah our prayerful support as she prepares for her new role over the coming months.
