May/June 2021

Dear Friends and Family:

We are almost to the middle of July and I realized that I needed to get this newsletter out! We have been super busy here in Ensenada. It is the good kind of busy in case any of you were wondering! The Lord continues to open doors and we keep walking in. Living a life in service to the Lord is demanding and exciting. I may have shared this before, but it makes me think of one of my favorite passages in the Gospels. In John 2 we find the record of the wedding in Cana. The coolest thing that happened to me is that the miracle was only seen by the servants. When you serve, you get to see the hand of God moving up close and personal and it is pretty glorious! I encourage any of you reading this to fit some time into your schedule to serve the Lord in some capacity. You will not be sorry!

The month of May was mostly business as usual. The Bible college that Peter teaches at asked him to be the commencement speaker at graduation which was a real honor. A good number of the students end up at our church at some point so we get to form relationships with them. One of the former students, Roger Vertiz has joined us, and has become Peter’s right hand man. We are so thankful to have him with us. Please pray for him as he is getting ready to get married!

In the rehab world…..we were able to do a night of worship at MAR women’s home. It is beautiful to see the women open up to God on nights like this as they let Him minister to their needs. We also added another rehab to the line up. It houses men and women…separately. This place is a bit rougher than the other centers we go to. The need is great and we are thankful to have the servants at our fellowship to come along side and help with the ministry. We could not do all that we do without the help of those in our fellowship who volunteer their time to go in and teach, counsel, lead worship and generally just love these that the world deems unlovable. The financial support we receive from those of you who give is also so integral to the work that is done here. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!! Your reward is in heaven!

Casa Jana news…..we were asked to cater the food for about 150 people at MAR women’s home for their 15 year anniversary. We did the decorations as well and it was a lovely event. Quite a few women who have gone through that center came back to share their testimonies of life on the outside. It was so nice to see them and to see that they are still letting God work in their lives. Our trainees still continue to hone their craft with Chef Paco every Thursday. Thank you, Chef!

One of the high lights of June was getting back to Vicente Guerrero to visit the pastors there. We haven’t been able to visit because of the pandemic since the beginning of 2020. It was wonderful to see how these men and their wives have come together to support one another during this time. We went expecting to meet with 5 or 6 of them, but in true God fashion, we were running out of chairs! There were about 40 of us there that night sharing stories of the goodness of God. We look forward to October when we return with our good friends from Southern California.

As always, thank you to those of you who financially support us. We could not continue here without it. A very special thank you to those of you who hold us up in prayer. It is a source of comfort and strength to know you are partnering with us in this way. Keep your eyes on Jesus!

March/April 2021

Dear Friends and Family:

We have made it another two months and are so grateful for the opportunities that the Lord has given us to serve Him and the people of Mexico. After the year we have all had, there is so much need everywhere for hope and courage, and the knowledge that we are not alone. Thankfully we have a God who has loved us from the beginning of time and who has promised to never leave us. He has been faithful to supply our needs, and we will continue to do the work He has given us to do as long as He does so. Romans 8:28 continues to be a comfort, that He will work out all things for good for those that love Him and are called according to His purpose. This tells me that even this crazy year will be used for good in our lives in His time. In the meantime, we will keep on pressing on toward the goal.

The Lord has continued to bless the volunteers for Casa Jana with training and opportunities to put their training into practice. We look forward to the day when our trainees become the trainers! In March we were able to put on a retreat for the young girls rehab we work in. Casa Jana provided the food for the weekend and it was all delicious and prepared with such love and care. The theme of the retreat was “Identity” and the girls greatly benefited from the time we had together. Our good friend Ketzali was able to come and be the guest speaker. It was such a great blessing to have her. She was able to speak into the lives of those girls from a place of wisdom and understanding. God was faithful!

Aside from the work in the rehab centers that happens weekly, Peter continues teaching at the Bible college and building relationships with the students. Many of them come to our church and we are so grateful to have them. They are super helpful and the energy they bring is wonderful! I was able to lead worship at a tea they put on for the girls at the college. It is was a beautiful afternoon and great to get to minister to them.

In April, Peter had a 1 day retreat for the boys rehab. It is always beneficial to the everyday ministry we do to be able to have these special events. We are able to break barriers and have a better chance at getting through to them. We currently have a good team to help with the opportunities the Lord is giving us and it is so nice to share these experiences with others.

Thank you to those of you who financially support us. We could not continue here without it. A very special thank you to those of you who hold us up in prayer. It is a source of comfort and strength to know you are partnering with us in this way. Keep your eyes on Jesus!

January-February 2021

Dear Friends and Family,

Greetings from Mexico! We pray that this finds you well and flourishing in the midst of circumstances that are mostly out of our control. Life still looks pretty different, but God is the same yesterday, today and forever!! The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows those who take refuge in Him. This verse in Nahum 1 brings comfort and peace to my life and I hope it does for yours as well. He knows what we are facing daily and is involved even though we may not see Him. Take courage!

We are back in full swing here in Ensenada and happy to be doing what God has called us to here. In January we were able to get ourselves set up to be able to provide a better livestream of our Sunday services. The church is open, but the livestream is helpful for those who either still are unable to join us, or for others who simply need the word of God taught in Spanish. Please pray that the Lord will continue to use this platform to grow the kingdom of God.

February was busier than we have been in a year! We are in all rehabs again teaching, counseling and doing special events. We were able to have a night of worship in the women’s home in the middle of February with Casa Jana providing dinner.....and I must say, it was beyond delicious! Our team is really putting into practice all that they have been learning with Paco! We had the honor of our dear fiends/family Ray & Irene Sandoval come to help with the worship and it was a beautiful night that the women talked about for days!

We have a retreat planned for both the young girls home and the boys home (separately of course!) so please keep those in prayer. Because we are in these homes on a weekly/daily basis, it gives us the credibility with them to do these special events and they end up being so much more effective. So, thank you to those of you who support us financially so that we can continue to pour into these lives. God sees them as precious and so do we! Your support is what makes it possible for us to be consistently here loving them in Jesus’ name. We couldn’t do it without you!!

Thank you also for your prayers. It makes such a difference! Keep loving Him! Keep serving Him! Keep loving others! Keep serving others!

In the face of such brutality in North Korea, sometimes it’s hard to find the words. Here are five examples from the Gospels that can guide us as we remember our family in North Korea.

September-December 2020

Dear Friends and Family,

What a year this has been! We made it to the end and have the hope of a new beginning in front of us with 2021. There is much we have learned during this season, but the most important is to not lose focus on what is most important! We are thankful to the Lord and many of you for sustaining us during these uncertain times. God has granted us health and the ability to be able to continue in our calling here in Ensenada.

Ministry has continued with safety protocols in place and we try vey hard to follow them in order to continue to do our work. Church has remained open until recently, but we continue to live stream the services on Sunday’s at 11 via our church page: CC Kaleo. The services are in Spanish, but anyone is welcome! The men’s home is closed to visitors, but the women’s home is still allowing us in for counseling and our Monday night service.

Casa Jana has also remained busy although our focus has had to change until we can get back to whatever normal will be. Until this most recent shut down, our ladies (and Peter) were able to continue their culinary education with chef Paco in his restaurant, Bacco. In order to use their new skills, they have been teaching the young girls in the girls rehab how to cook. It has proven to be a great blessing for all! They also made a fancy 4 course meal in late November that was both delicious and beautiful.

We have had many in our church and ministry affected personally by the virus and we will continue to pray for all of us that God’s mercy and grace would keep us. The Lord is still on His throne and we all need to keep our eyes on Him and remember that He loves us above all. We pray that 2021 will bring hope and blessing to your lives and that you continue to allow the Lord to use you no matter what the circumstances are.

Joyfully serving Him,Peter, Tami & Leah Yee

SOUTH SUDAN: South Sudan is one of the world’s poorest nations. Only 27% of the people (and only 8% of the women) can read and write. The country has more land that Spain and Portugal combined, but only has 100 km (62 miles) of paved roads. Less than 2% of the people have access to clean water, only 6% have access to improved sanitation, and 33% suffer from chronic hunger. Rates for the number of mothers who die in childbirth, for infant mortality, and for immunization against disease are the worst in the world. Pray for God’s mercy!

NORTH KOREA: North Korea today is like a nightmare. The state creates a cult around the young “Supreme Leader” (Kim Jong-Un) and his dead grandfather, and does not allow the people to interact with the outside world. More than 3 million people have starved to death since 1994. Aid agencies can sometimes bring in food, but the government and military take much of it. Pray that food will reach the desperate, hungry people. Pray that in God’s timing a change would come to completely free and transform this land.

June-August 2020

Dear Friends and Family,

Well, here we are.....ending the month of August and it is still pretty crazy out there. This year has been a learning curve for all of us. We have had to learn a new normal, adjust our ways of doing things, and figure out how to be productive during a time with extreme limitations. In all the change and crazy we are surrounded with, one things remains the same.....the Almighty God, Creator of heaven and earth, our Lord and Savior has not changed, and none of this has been a shock to Him. He is the same yesterday, today and forever! His word is still true, and we can still trust Him and His promises. We want to encourage you all to keep your eyes on Jesus, the Author and Finisher or your faith. We all need to press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:14). Don’t lose hope!

I am very happy to report that we have been allowed back in the rehab centers. We have been doing devotions and bible study with them again since July, with some restriction and new protocols in place. It has been good to be with them again after so long. They cannot go onto the internet whenever they want to watch a teaching or listen to worship music, so it has been a relief to get back in to provide them with that. We all need to know that someone cares, and that there is hope.

This month (August) we have been able to start one on one counseling again with the women. Teaching and encouraging them in a group setting is good, but it is the one on one that really makes a difference and promotes changes in the heart. Please pray for an openness to God’s way and word in their hearts!

We are also meeting together on Sunday’s again....with protocols and restrictions of course, but we will take what we can get. We are still posting a recorded “service” on Sundays on our church page for those who still don’t feel comfortable meeting together. Slowly but surely things are starting to move in a forward direction and it is very good!

Casa Jana has had to refocus efforts due to the “Great Plague of 2020!” As you may remember, some of our women were in training with a chef in the area with the goal of opening a restaurant at some point. At this present time, opening a restaurant does not seam like good stewardship. We are, however, resuming the training in September, and hope to use the training we receive to then teach the young girls in rehab. We plan to go once a week and teach them a new cooking skill that they can in turn use to serve others. Once a month we will take the young girls and have them cook for the women’s home using the skills that they have learned. We are excited to see what comes of this.

As always, we are grateful for your prayer and support so that we can continue to do the work God has called us to. We would ask that you please keep us in prayer and the various areas that we are working in. May God bless you abundantly above what you could ask or think!

FRANCE: The Bible is alien to most French people – less than 10% own a Bible and 80% have never even handled one. Yet, Bible sales are at an all-time high! This is spurred by the spiritual hunger evident among many and the availability of inexpensive Bibles. Praise God that people are turning to his word, and pray that they would engage with it in ways that bring personal, communal, and societal transformation.

Prayer is the language of a
man burdened with a sense of need.

20/05/2020

Greetings from Ensenada! Yes, we are still here holding down the fort. These, most certainly, are cray times we are living in. We chose to stay here in Mexico in order to continue to minister to the people here as best we can. We are unable to congregate for church or go into the rehabs at this time, because of this we are recording an online “service” that can be viewed on our church page: CCKaleo. It is in Spanish, no surprise, but please feel free to view it. Most of what we are doing is online, but there are still a few things that can be done in person. Life looks different now, so it is the same with ministry. We are having to temporarily redefine what ministry looks like for us.

As we pray for you, please keep us in your prayers. We all need to fight the good fight from whatever location, in whatever circumstance we find ourselves in. God is still good, He is still on the throne, and He still loves with and everlasting love, these things never change. May this encourage you to continue in a forward direction in His love and strength. Peter, Tami, and Leah

Jan/March 2020

Dear Friends & Family:

Strange times we find ourselves in...we are a bit behind here in Mexico, but the virus is taking its toll here as well. We are not able to go the rehab centers and unable to meet for church on Sundays. We have had to figure out ways to be of service to the people here without being near the people here. One thing is for sure, we all have more time to pray and seek the wisdom and guidance of the Lord. I would encourage all of us to spend time in prayer and fasting. It is difficult to see the devastation world wide, and I am sure all of us are wondering what the new normal will be. Always keep in mind that no matter what the circumstances look like, God is always loving, just and good.

Before the social distancing and quarantine orders, Casa Jana was headed in a very good direction. I mentioned in the las newsletter that we had news on that front. We had 4 women training with a chef and owner of a local restaurant here in Ensenada. They were being trained in the fundamentals of cooking and baking. What a blessing to have others catch the vision of what Casa Jana stands for. Of course, that work is currently on hold and we will have to see what is to come with it. We are very grateful for the time and effort Chef Paco from restaurant Bacco has graciously donated to us.

Our current plans are to remain here in Mexico and do what we can for the people we serve. We have gathered the resources of the body to help those who have need. It is always a good thing to see people come together to help one another in times like these

Please keep us in prayer for:
The church and Casa Jana....to know how and when to move forward when we are able to.
Pray for Mayra. She is home in Sonora with her family until this is over and we can resume ministry
Pray for God’s continued guidance and provision for this ministry.
Pray for our two grand babies that are on the way....
