To sum up, there are two reasons why it is important to understand the nature of mind. One is because there is an intimate connection between mind and karma. The other is that our state of mind plays a crucial role in our experience of happiness and suffering. If understanding the mind is very important, what then is mind, and what is its nature?

Find out at https://www.lamayeshe.com/article/what-mind in which His Holiness the Dalai Lama explains the Buddhist concept of mind to the participants of a Mind Science symposium at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA, USA.

Most important is the practice you do for your mother. Do Vajrasattva practice as much as possible to purify the mother. When doing Vajrasattva practice, visualize a moon disc in your heart and on that moon disc are all sentient beings and your mother. Nectar comes to [the sentient beings], to you and also to your mother, purifying the negative karma from beginningless rebirths. It seems this is extremely beneficial and most important for you to do. lamayeshe.com/advice/strong-prayers-mother

Image of Lama Yeshe giving the Vajrasattva empowerment, Alhambra, Spain, 1982. "That evening, Lama Yeshe was about to give some students a Vajrasattva empowerment in his room at the Granada Palace Hotel when it was found that his dorje and bell had been left in Barcelona. No matter, Lama picked up two tuberose spikes and used those instead. At exactly those moments in the ritual when music is offered and the bell usually rung, the bells in the church next door began to chime— every time."

In the West we are overwhelmed with so much information ... so much! A hundred thousand bits of information from the television, from newspapers, from Time magazine ... we keep learning things. But all this information brings us no conclusion, no clear direction. This is the problem. If you have too much information, how can you come to a conclusion? This is why meditation is so important. From meditation comes clarity, a clear conclusion, a deeper understanding.

Following self-cherishing thoughts ~ Lama Zopa Rinpoche
https://justdharma.org/following-self-cherishing-thoughts/

If you follow self-cherishing thoughts, those thoughts become your identity. Then anger, pride, the jealous mind - all this negative emotional stuff arises. When you let go of the I and cherish others, negative emotional thoughts do not arise. That's very clear. Anger does not arise at those you cherish.

In Kadampa practice, the Four Deities are often emphasized, because together they represent the complete path: wisdom, compassion, protection, and swift activity.

🏵Shakyamuni Buddha - Meditating on Shakyamuni Buddha connects us to the original source of the Dharma and develops faith, clarity, and wisdom.
🏵Acala (Miyowachala) - A wrathful protector deity whose name means “The Immovable One.” Acala represents spiritual strength and discipline, helping practitioners overcome inner afflictions such as anger, laziness, and doubt.
🏵Green Tara – This female Buddha embodies quick compassionate response, encouraging practitioners to develop fearless compassion and active altruism.
🏵Avalokitesvara (Chenrezig) - Meditating on Avalokitesvara develops bodhicitta—the wish to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all beings.

✨Geshe Sonam Ngodrup will give this extraordinary Jenang (initiation) on Saturday May 2 in Amsterdam.
