Long before the manger in Bethlehem, God had already spoken. Through Isaiah He declared, ‘The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light’ (Isaiah 9:2). This was not poetry alone, it was prophecy. Darkness was real: sin, fear, oppression, and hopelessness. Yet God promised light, not an idea, not a system, but a person.

Isaiah went further: ‘For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given’ (Isaiah 9:6). Notice the mystery, fully human, yet divinely given. A Child born into our world; a Son sent from God’s heaven. This promise waited centuries, until John tells us the stunning fulfillment: ‘The Word became flesh and dwelt among us’ (John 1:14).

God did not shout salvation from heaven.He stepped into our dust. The eternal Word put on human skin. He entered our poverty, our suffering, our weakness. The light Isaiah saw from afar now walked our roads, felt our hunger, and carried our pain. Christmas is not about God coming close, it is about God becoming one of us, so that sinners could be saved and darkness would never have the final word.
