Last Wednesday during lunch break at Cornerstone Christian High School, while most students were enjoying their meal and a bit of rest, Precious, one of our Form 1 students, chose to spend his time differently.

He gathered a small group of classmates and began teaching them Mathematics.

No teacher assigned him. He simply noticed that some of his friends needed help and stepped in. That is leadership in its purest form.

Meanwhile, Danneck, our Executive Director, was walking around and witnessed this gesture. He stopped and watched quietly. In that simple scene, he saw the vision of Cornerstone unfolding exactly as it was intended. This school was established to raise responsible, servant-hearted leaders. Young people who do the right thing even when no one is watching.

At the same time, we must be honest about the challenge before us.

Precious and his classmates are currently learning in an unfinished school block. The structure that will hold two classrooms and a computer laboratory is nearly complete, but it still requires a ceiling, paint, and desks. And as more families entrust us with their children’s education, our space is being stretched beyond its limits.

Our students are putting in the effort. They are disciplined. They are supporting one another. They are making the most of what they have.

Now we must rise to meet their commitment.

We are asking for your prayers and your active support to help us complete this block and provide a proper learning environment for these hardworking students.

Their passion deserves more than bare walls. Let us come together and finish this work. If you are part of the Cornerstone family, this is our moment to act.

Looking Back: Week 3 Highlights from ROOTED Summer Camp 2025

We can’t let the joy of Week 3 pass by without celebration! Last week at our Rooted in Christ Summer Camp 2025 was bursting with learning, laughter, and unforgettable discoveries.

Sports and recreation stole the spotlight, with activities like Marble on the Spoon, Relay Races, and the Bottle Challenge teaching teamwork, creativity, and focus, plus bringing out lots of smiles along the way!

Tuesday was extra special with our Fun and Crazy Wear Day. Camp leaders came dressed in wild and wacky outfits, making the children laugh until their sides hurt. The day’s Bible games, talent showcases, and fun activities turned the camp into a place of freedom and friendship, where leaders and campers shared not just lessons, but laughs too.

We thank God for such a joyful and successful Week 3. Now, with Week 4 already underway, our hearts are full of excitement as we look toward the grand finale. We believe the best is yet to come!

ROOTED: A Summer of Faith, Fun, and Foundations – Week 2

The joy just keeps growing! From Monday to Thursday, our Rooted in Christ Summer Camp 2025 brought even more faith, fun, and friendships to the campgrounds. By the end of the week, we had welcomed 238 children, each one adding their unique energy to our camp family.

Bible Class was a highlight for many, as the children explored inspiring stories like that of the prophet Elijah and how God answered his prayers in 1 Kings 18:16-45. They discovered that, just like Elijah, they too can pray and experience God’s power in their own lives.

Over in Art and Music, creativity bloomed as campers crafted colourful friendship bracelets with their leaders and sketched their favourite fruits. Meanwhile, the Sports fields rang with cheers as football matches and other games brought out teamwork, skill, and plenty of smiles.

In General Discovery, the week wrapped up with a spirited financial literacy debate: “Is a car a liability and maize meal an asset, or vice versa?” The discussion brought out confident voices, sharp reasoning, and a glimpse of the entrepreneurial spirit that will serve these young minds well in the future.

Of course, no camp week is complete without delicious food, and our heartfelt thanks go to Mrs. Maguwa, Mrs. Makioni, and Uncle Mike for serving up rice, beans, and nsima that kept everyone fuelled for the fun.

It is such a joy to see our campers growing in faith, making friends, and building confidence. Week 3, we are ready for you!

ROOTED: A Summer of Faith, Fun, and Foundations

What a week it’s been! Our 2025 Summer Camp kicked off on Monday, 4th July, and the energy has been amazing ever since. We’ve spent our first few days laughing, learning, and growing together, just the way summer should be.

This year’s theme, “Rooted in Christ” from Colossians 2:6–7, is already shaping our time in such a powerful way, reminding us to build our lives on a strong foundation of faith.

This week, we have welcomed over 130 kids, with more expected to join in the coming weeks. A special shoutout for our 15 dedicated camp leaders who are pouring their time and love into making this experience unforgettable.

We can’t wait to see what the rest of the month holds. Stay tuned for more weekly updates and highlights!

Day Two at UPI Summit 2025: Purpose in Action. Growth in Motion.

The second day of the Urban Promise International (UPI) Malawi Summit was both inspiring and educational for all participants gathered at African Bible College in Lilongwe.

The day opened with a powerful message from Dr. Bruce Main, Founder of UrbanPromise International, who challenged us to serve with a clear purpose. He reminded us that many people in our communities are battling feelings of being unloved, without meaning, and without hope. As ministry leaders, we are called to respond to this need by showing love, restoring meaning, and bringing hope to those we serve.

Participants engaged in a series of practical sessions throughout the day, focusing on key topics such as conflict resolution, serving with excellence, nonviolent communication, and mental health and self-care.

In another session, Reverend Dr. Christopher Kanyenda, of the CCAP Nkhoma Synod, shared that serving with excellence means being open to correction, owning up to our mistakes and learning from them. This, he said, reflects our commitment to continuous growth and a heart that truly desires to serve others well.

Later in the day, Gibozi Mphanzi, former Director of YouthCare Ministries and Country Director for Africa Windmill Project, delivered a thoughtful session on mental health and self-care. He encouraged participants to better understand their emotional wellbeing and to choose positivity, even in the midst of life’s challenges. His message served as an important reminder: in order to care well for others, we must also take care of ourselves.

We are grateful to be part of this transformative gathering and believe that the lessons learned will strengthen our ministries as we continue to serve with passion and excellence.

UPI Summit 2025 is Here! Passion. Purpose. Excellence.

The 2025 Urban Promise International (UPI) Malawi Summit kicked off yesterday, Thursday 3rd July, at African Bible College in Lilongwe, bringing together over twelve ministries from across the country.

During the opening session, Dr. Cornelius Huwa, CEO of African Enterprise Malawi, unveiled this year’s theme: “Growing the Passion, Serving with Excellence,” based on Romans 12:9-11. He encouraged all participants to grow in passion and to serve with excellence, emphasising key principles such as responsibility, effective communication, relationship building, resource management, and conflict resolution.

The summit aims to strengthen ties among ministries and foster the sharing of best practices. This year’s sessions include topics like Figuring Out Your Passion, Effective Communication, Serving with Excellence, and Why Music Matters.

IGNITING POTENTIAL, INSPIRING DREAMS: Celebrating our outgoing students

On Friday, 20th June 2025, we celebrated our 209 Form Four students at Cornerstone Christian High School at a joyful and colorful ceremony. This is our eighth cohort since the school opened in 2016.

The ceremony held under the theme "Igniting Potential, Inspiring Dreams" brought together students, parents, guardians, teachers, and special guests in celebration of the achievements of the class of 2025. There was music, drama, speeches, words of encouragement and other activities all centered on the importance of having dreams and working hard to achieve them. Gifts were given to all the best performing students.

The special day was graced by several guests, including the Cornerstone Board Chairperson, Reverend Kaluluma Tembo, Reverend Sato, Senior Chief Kalonga, local village chiefs, and the Member of Parliament for Salima Central, Gerald Kapiseni, who was the guest of honour.

Speaking to the students, Guest of Honour Gerald Kapiseni encouraged the students to set their eyes on their vision and that their beginning does not matter, the biggest picture is what they will become in the end. Echoing the same message, Cornerstone Director Danneck Falinya emphasized the need for a vision of what they aim to become and to take swift action towards it.

Beyond the students, the event also recognized the vital role that teachers have played in shaping the students for the past four years. Further, it was also a reminder to the community of Cornerstone's commitment to providing quality education and building young leaders for the future.

📍 Welcome to Malawi, BGSU! 🇲🇼🤝🇺🇸

Yesterday, 14th May, we warmly welcomed a team from Bowling Green State University (BGSU), USA, to Cornerstone!

Led by Professors Gabriel Matney and Joana Weaver, the group includes 17 amazing students from the English, Arts, and Mathematics departments.

This visit strengthens our partnership that began in 2022, and for the next 3 days, they’ll be co-teaching lessons and sharing creative teaching methods with our staff at CCHS.

Dr. Matney shared that they plan to visit Malawi every two years, not just for education, but for the life-changing cultural experiences too.

We’re excited for the fun-filled days ahead as we learn, grow, and celebrate the power of partnership! 💫📚
