Saint Rose Venerini
(February 9, 1656 – May 7, 1728)
Saint Rose Venerini’s path to holiness was shaped by loss, discernment, and courage. After the death of her fiancé, she entered a convent seeking a life devoted entirely to God. However, she later returned home to care for her widowed mother. In that quiet and hidden season of her life, Rose began gathering women from her neighborhood to pray the rosary and grow in faith together.
With the guidance of a Jesuit priest, Rose came to understand that God was not calling her to remain in the cloister, but rather to serve Him in the world through education. She recognized how many young girls lacked proper instruction and Christian formation, and she courageously responded to that need.
In 1685, she opened her first free school for girls. Her work quickly bore fruit, and Church leaders soon entrusted her with training teachers and organizing schools throughout Italy, including in Rome. Despite criticism, resistance, and many hardships, Rose remained steadfast in her mission and never abandoned the work God had placed in her heart.
Saint Rose Venerini died in Rome in 1728 and was canonized in 2006. The small prayer group she once began eventually grew into the Venerini Sisters, a religious community that continues serving the Church today through education and ministry.
Her life reminds us that God can use every experience — our joys, losses, talents, and even our grief — for His glory. No gift is too small when offered with love and placed at the service of others.

Lord, You called Saint Rose Venerini to teach with wisdom, courage, and love.
Help us to trust Your plan even when life changes unexpectedly.
Use our gifts, our struggles, and our daily work for the good of others.
Give us hearts that serve faithfully, especially those most in need of guidance and hope.
May we, like Saint Rose, bring light through kindness, patience, and truth.
