IIB Concludes 2026 Ramadhan Youth Book Competition Finals Across All Bureaus

The Islamic Information Bureau (IIB) has successfully concluded the finals of its 2026 Ramadhan Youth Book Competition across all six bureaus in Malawi, Limbe, Mzuzu, Lilongwe, Balaka, Mangochi, and Ndirande, after running the competition throughout the entire month of Ramadan. The month-long contest challenged young participants nationwide to engage deeply with the book “My Love for Jesus Led Me to Islam.”

At the Limbe bureau, Shameem Kachingwe emerged as the overall winner, taking home K100,000 and a collection of assorted Islamic books. Ahmed Louis secured second place with K75,000 and books, while Muhammad Mahmood finished third, receiving K50,000 along with reading materials. Similar competitions at the other bureaus also recognized outstanding participants with cash prizes and Islamic literature for their knowledge, critical thinking, and understanding of the book’s themes.

The initiative not only promoted youth engagement, knowledge, and critical thinking but also focused on building strong relationships with young people and inculcating a culture of reading among them. By combining faith-based learning with interactive competition, the IIB continues to nurture informed, spiritually grounded, and motivated youth across Malawi.

The Islamic Information Bureau (IIB) yesterday hosted an Iftar program across its offices, bringing together individuals interested in embracing Islam, commonly referred to as potential reverts, as well as those who have recently accepted the faith. The gathering aimed to provide a welcoming environment where participants could learn more about Islamic teachings and practices.

Held during the holy month of Ramadhan, the program also sought to help participants appreciate how Muslims observe fasting from dawn to sunset, practice self-discipline, and strengthen their spiritual connection through acts of worship and charity.

During the event, attendees were introduced to key aspects of Islamic worship, including practical demonstrations of acts such as the performance of Salat (prayer). The initiative sought to deepen understanding and offer guidance through direct engagement and observation.

The program was conducted simultaneously across six IIB offices, reflecting the organization’s broader efforts to support and educate both new and prospective members of the Muslim community.

Today, Saturday 14 February 2026, the IIB Youth Desk had the honour of addressing secondary school students in a program hosted by the Iqra University Muslim Students Association (MSA), under the leadership of its Chairman, Shamran Abdullah.

Appreciation goes to the Iqra MSA and the University Management for creating a platform that brought together young minds from different schools, Naizi Secondary School and Mawilo Secondary School from Zomba, as well as Alpha Private Secondary School from Chileka. Such initiatives demonstrate a strong commitment to nurturing not only academic excellence, but also moral and personal development among students.

The presentation focused on the power of choices and the importance of identity. Students explored how everyday decisions shape character, influence reputation, and determine long-term outcomes. Emphasis was placed on identity as the foundation of behaviour when young people understand who they are and what they stand for, they are better equipped to resist negative pressure and make responsible decisions.

The discussion further highlighted the need to build strong character, maintain moral discipline, and ensure that integrity remains consistent both in public and in private life. Students were encouraged to reflect deeply on their values, goals, and the kind of individuals they aspire to become.

The engagement served as a reminder that empowering young people with clarity of identity and moral direction is one of the greatest investments communities and the nation can make.

The IIB Youth Desk, in collaboration with the MASYAP Coordinator, Sister Doreen Iman, and under the leadership of Sheikh Mustahab Ayami, MAT Communications Manager, visited Mangochi to engage learners from Nangapoche CDSS and Mtindiwale CDSS in a session dedicated to character development and academic excellence. The activity was conducted under the Mai Aisha Trust initiative, which supports and partially sponsors selected schools within the district.

The keynote address emphasized that a person’s background does not determine their future. It further explored themes of morality, responsible decision-making, and the consequences attached to everyday choices. Under the theme “Choices Matter: Building Strong Character and Moral Discipline,” students reflected on common behavioral challenges and how consistent habits whether positive or negative can influence long-term outcomes.

Participants were encouraged to practice integrity, accountability, and responsibility in both their public behavior and private lives. The session highlighted the strong link between moral discipline, academic focus, personal development, and future success. Ultimately, the engagement aimed to inspire learners to make intentional choices and build a solid foundation for a meaningful and productive life.
