Today we had a very impactful meeting where we discussed a variety of important topics, including insights into the upcoming Vocations Day set to take place in Salima.

We were also privileged to have a special session with our patron, Lieutenant Andrew Thomo, who shared his life journey and inspired the youth on matters of education, work, and leadership. He encouraged us all to embrace the seasons we are in and learn to adapt for our own growth and success.

Last Wednesday, St Mary’s Parish Youths had sports activities where young people played football and netball. Everyone enjoyed the games while keeping their bodies active and healthy.

The activity helped promote physical development, especially fitness, as the youth learned to stay fit through exercise and games. It also encouraged teamwork and cooperation, helping them build strong friendships while having fun.

Hard work. Team spirit. Real impact. 💪🧹

Yesterday’s programme was truly enriching. Here’s a recap and reflection on what we learned together as we continue to grow in faith.

📖 Learning About the Catholic Church
1️⃣ Words spoken by the Blessed Virgin Mary (with Bible verses)
The Bible does not record seven exact sayings of the Blessed Virgin Mary like it does with the Seven Last Words of Jesus on the Cross.
However, Sacred Scripture records important words spoken by Mary that teach us faith, humility, and obedience:

■“How can this be, since I do not know man?”
(Luke 1:34)
▪︎Mary seeks understanding while trusting God.

■“Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to your word.”
(Luke 1:38)
▪︎Mary accepts God’s will with full obedience.

■“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”
(Luke 1:46–47)
▪︎Mary praises and glorifies God (The Magnificat).

■“Son, why have you done this to us?”
( Luke 2:48)
▪︎Mary speaks as a loving and caring mother.

■“They have no wine.”
(John 2:3)
▪︎Mary intercedes for others at the wedding at Cana.

■“Do whatever He tells you.”
(John 2:5)
▪︎Mary directs everyone to obey Jesus.
◇Many people confuse these words with the Seven Sorrows of Mary, which focus on her suffering, not on her spoken words.

2️⃣ Why do we light two candles at Mass? (With Bible references)
During Holy Mass, two or more candles are lit on the altar based on Scripture:

🕯️ Jesus is the Light of the World
( John 8:12 — “I am the light of the world.”)

🕯️ Candles symbolize God’s presence
( Exodus 25:31–37 — God commands lamps to be used in worship.)

🕯️ Light represents God’s guidance and holiness
(Psalm 119:105 — “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”)

🕯️ Two candles show reverence and solemn worship, not private prayer.
On feast days and special celebrations, more candles are used to express greater joy and honor to God.

✝️ Through Scripture and symbols, the Church helps us worship God with reverence and understanding.
