*SATURDAY AUGUST 10, 2024*

*CAN A BELIEVER SPEAK WITH TONGUES AT WILL?*

*Tongues is peculiar to the New Testament. Believers who do not speak with tongues is based on wrong information or ignorance.*

1st Corinthians 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

The only cure to ignorance is precise knowledge which has to be taught. One of such thoughts that is a result of ignorance is this:
• It is as the spirit wills; you can’t speak in tongues at will. Is this statement true?

Who speaks with tongues; Man or the Spirit?
The term ‘spirit’ often times can be confused as being ‘mysterious and unpredictable’ but the believer must know that the spirit’s activities are within our choices. Paul wrote on this in his epistles - 1st Corinthians 14:14, 1st Corinthians 14:2.

The believer does the speaking.
1. We walk in the spirit (Galatians 5:16); it is our responsibility.

2. We are to be filled with the spirit (Ephesians 5:18); it is our responsibility and our will is involved.

The Acts 2:1-4 event may appear sudden/unexpected as though the spirit moved without human cooperation. This is not so.

Peter’s response (Acts 2:16-18, 33) on the day of Pentecost shows he was well informed. He knew it had been prophesied by Joel. He knew this came because Jesus had been raised from the dead and exalted.

How did Peter know this? Luke 24:44-45, Jesus had taught them extensively the meaning of all the feasts of the Old Testament.

He taught them what the feast of Pentecost meant; it was to foreshadow Newness (Holy Spirit). Jesus taught them from the book of Joel and gave them instructions in that regard (Luke 24:49, Acts 1:5).

Why is information important? It is important because the things of the spirit works with desire (1st Corinthians 12:30, 1st Corinthians 14:1, 1st Corinthians 14:12, 1st Corinthians 14:32, 1st Corinthians 14:39). Desire implies there is a willingness to function in it. The gifts of the spirit are in subjection to the believer, hence I have the will to;

• Be quiet with tongues

• Be orderly with prophecy

• Be instructed on the things of the spirit

It is also in one’s will to stop or forbid the things of the spirit.
However the instructions we have is to desire, covet and be zealous of spiritual gifts.

Man has a choice to make in functioning in the gifts of the spirit; he makes the choice.

*Confession: I desire, covet and am zealous of spiritual gifts, I refuse to stop, neglect or despise them. In the church I choose to be a blessing to others by edifying them through my exercise of the gifts in the spirit via interpretation of tongues.*

*DR ABEL DAMINA*

*SATURDAY JUNE 08, 2024*

*NOT UNDER THE LAW (8)*

*ROMANS 3:19-24.*

*There is a law of contextual reading in literature; the preceding verses (Romans 3:9 -18) help us understand that Paul was addressing the Jew as also under the dominion of Sin. Hence the giving of the Laws by Moses did not change their nature. This means the observance of the law does not solve the issue of sin and death.*

Galatians 2:15 We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,
Vs 16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

The works of the law do not justify men before God, rather faith of Christ does. The giving of the Law and Prophets to Israel had expiration; it was to be a temporary measure until Jesus came.

Galatians 3:22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
Vs.23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
Vs.24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
Vs.25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
Vs.26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

The law imputed transgression before Jesus came; the giving of the law was to show the state of men, the need for the Grace and Faith of God. The law preached and pointed men to faith in Christ.

So the law was to hold on to them until Jesus; it showed in its condemnation the need for salvation by Grace through faith in Jesus.

The hold of the law expired at the arrival of Christ. A breaking away from the law made men children of God by faith, so the sons of God were no longer under the law.

Moses prophesied of the same (Deuteronomy 18:15-19, Acts 7:37); Acts 3:20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:
Vs 21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
Vs 22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. Vs 23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.
Vs 24 Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.

Christ was called faith; after Christ/faith is come no one should be under the law. But the wilfully rebellious; the unbeliever tries to justify himself by his works in the law rather than in Christ. The law is not of faith, but sons of God come into existence by the faith of God in Christ Jesus.

*CONFESSION:*
*I am a son of God; I have received the grace of God in Christ, so i am not under the Law but under Grace. I have believed God’s love for me in Christ, I do not have a rebellious heart.*

*CHRISTOCENTRIC MEAL*

*SATURDAY APRIL 20, 2024*

*HOW DID I GET SAVED?*

*One of the things a believer has to acknowledge and have a complete understanding of is how he got saved. The knowledge of this would enable him to appreciate what Christ did and know what his role was in salvation. The believer would not make statements like “I gave my life to Christ” referring to his salvation.*

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

The believer should understand that at salvation, he could not be the one giving. Jesus’ words in the texts above clearly specifies who did the giving- God. He gave His son.

The believer could not have given his life as the scriptures affirm a man without the gospel as dead.

Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

Thinking you gave your life to Christ already starts the Christian experience on the wrong footing because you have a false sense of accomplishment. It is God that gave and you are the receiver from start to finish.

How then did you get saved?

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

It is key to note that salvation is not believing in one God. There is nothing spectacular about believing there is one God or not. Believing in God is not salvation. Salvation is not to believe in God Salvation is to believe in Jesus Christ.

Romans 10:6-12
Paul states it simply as believing with the heart and confessing with the mouth the Lord Jesus that God raised him from the dead.

The word “confession” means to say something in two places;
a repetition of something. It is to believe in your heart and say that which you have believed in your heart with your mouth.

Luke says it well in the book of Acts:
Acts 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
Vs 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

That ability of God that saves is present only in the gospel. It is not present in your works, not present even in your confession;

It is present only in the facts of the good news of what Jesus has done unto you. When a man then believes the Gospel, he is a son of God.

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Vs 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

The only information that a man needs to be saved is the Gospel. It is not about somebody's vision / experience, etc.. The only information that brings salvation is the gospel of Jesus Christ.

*CONFESSION*: I believe the gospel (of Jesus Christ) therefore I am saved; I am a son of God.

*CHRISTOCENTRIC MEAL*

*DR ABEL DAMINA*

*MONDAY APRIL 15, 2024*

*RIGHTEOUSNESS (1)*

*Righteousness is a gift of God. The gospel doesn’t demand righteousness, the gospel is the gospel of righteousness.*

Romans 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
Vs 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Vs 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Hence, the believer in Christ doesn’t have a righteousness problem. Once he accepts the gospel, he has accepted the righteousness which is of God.

The words “Justified,” “righteous,” and “righteousness” are used more in the book of Romans than in any other book in the bible. To understand the doctrine of righteousness, we need to study the book of Romans. The word, “righteousness” was used 92 times in the New Testament books of the bible. A third of those instances are in the Book of Romans. That means one-third of the explanation of righteousness from Matthew to Revelation is found in just one epistle. To understand righteousness, I must understand the Book of Romans.

Romans 1:1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called [to be] an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, It was called the gospel of God because of the promissory nature it had in the “Holy Scriptures;” the scriptures of the Prophets.

Romans 1:9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;

The Gospel of His Son now the Gospel of God.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Romans 10:15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! He calls it the Gospel of Peace.

Romans 15:29 And I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ. He mentions the fullness of the Blessing of the Gospel of Christ…

The emphasis when Paul mentions the Gospel of Christ, over and again. He is talking about the resurrection of Jesus. He calls the resurrection of Jesus the Gospel. You couldn’t have had resurrection without his death. The Gospel is not in the death, the Gospel is in his resurrection.

Mark 16 was the only place where the word Gospel was used in the four Gospels in the Great commission.

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Vs 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.

Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

John 20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on [them,] and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
Vs 23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; [and] whose soever [sins] ye retain, they are retained.

It’s only in Mark that the word “Gospel was used. “Go ye and preach the Gospel to every creature.” Why did he call it the Gospel? He did so because he had appeared to them after he rose from the dead.

Vs 14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.

Hence, the term “The Gospel is not about the death of Jesus but about His resurrection. The resurrection of Jesus is the promise of God.

See Paul’s emphasis as he preached in Acts 13.
Acts 13:32 And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,
Vs 33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

That’s what he calls the Gospel, so the Gospel is the resurrection of Jesus. Back to Romans 1.

Vs 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Hence, the Gospel of Christ will be the Good news of His resurrection.
Vs 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Observe that He identifies the Gospel with righteousness. So a key element in the resurrection of Jesus is righteousness.

Romans 4:25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

Observe that whenever you hear about righteousness, it is tied to His resurrection, NOT his death.

1st Corinthians 15:13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
Vs 14 And if Christ be not risen, then [is] our preaching vain, and your faith [is] also vain…
Vs 17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith [is] vain; ye are yet in your sins.

The emphasis is on the resurrection. That is what the Gospel is.

*Confession: I have righteousness because Jesus rose from the dead, I am no longer in my sins. Since the righteousness of God came by the gospel of his son, I have God’s righteousness all the time.*

*THE SPIRIT LIVES IN YOU - (1)*

Philemon 1:4
I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,
Vs 5 Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;
Vs 6 That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

Paul reminded Philemon how he prayed for him to the end that the communication of his faith becomes effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing that is in him in Christ. This implies that a believer will be effective to the degree that he has precise knowledge of the things that belong to him in Christ.

This underlined several of Paul’s prayer for believers in his epistles (Ephesians 1:17-23, Philippians 1:9-11, Colossians 1:9-11).

Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

An important concept of study for the believer in Christ to be well acquainted with is the indwelling of the spirit.

This can be seen from the promises made in the Old Testament books of the Bible and the fulfillment of the same explained in both the four gospels and epistles. In the light of this, the believer ought to carefully pay attention to this important detail, as a failure to do so may lead to the believer looking at these promises without knowing they have been fulfilled.

Also, in understanding this (the indwelling of the spirit), it is important to bear in mind the several concepts related to the indwelling of the spirit. These include concepts such as the new birth (being born of the spirit), the gifts in the spirit, the fruit of the spirit, being filled with the spirit, etc.

The promise of the spirit in the Old Testament

Ezekiel 36:25
Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
Vs 26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
Vs 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Joel 2:28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
Vs 29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

We find the above two prophecies in Old Testament books of the Bible concerning the spirit. Note that Joel’s prophecy is about the outpouring of the spirit upon all flesh.

This was pointed out by Peter in explaining the events of the day of Pentecost:

Acts 2:16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
Vs 17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
Vs 18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

So Joel’s prophecy was explained by Peter as fulfilled by what happened on the day of Pentecost (how believers spoke in tongues and prophesied).

Thus Joel’s prophecy was concerning the spirit, but we must pay close attention to what was said. As seen above, the prophecy of Joel was explained by Peter with respect to the events on the day of Pentecost: they spoke with tongues and prophesied.

We can say therefore that the prophecy of Joel was concerning the outpouring of the spirit. This was fulfilled from the day of Pentecost, however, this is not about the indwelling of the spirit which Ezekiel’s prophecy dealt with as we shall subsequently see.

2nd Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.*

Confession:*
*“The promises of God are fulfilled in Christ Jesus. I am a recipient of the same by faith. I took in Christ, the fulfillment of all of God’s promises and I walk in the benefits of all I have received.”*
